Charles was not on the terrace when she came, so Joyce used this opportunity to have it all by herself. He would be upstairs most of the night and she did not feel like disturbing him. So when she finally got the chance to be on the terrace alone, she snatched it.
Joyce had a bottle of Coca-Cola in one of her hands and then a wine glass in another. Since she was not supposed to take alcohol which was the only thing she was restricted to, she took the wine glass and enjoyed a cold drink in it as a guilty pleasure.
