Chase approached Bailey as if she was a skittish colt that had never been saddled. If only it were that easy. He'd terrorized this woman just a couple of hours ago, and from his take on things, she was more dangerous than a colt. His bruised ribs and foot agreed.
"Bailey, don't run. I've brought a peace offering." He held out the koi feed to her.
The look she gave him could have killed a lesser man, but she didn't run. After the initial startled death glare, she returned to watching the fish. "I ran out of change for the feeder." She took the feed and went to tossing pellets onto the water.
"Can I join you?"
"Would it do me any good to say no? You seem to do whatever you want."
"If you say no, I'll stay over here, but it feels weird talking to your back."
"Stay over there."
