From what he could see they were all little fingers, but they came from different bodies, even that of a child. Through the bond, Cole could Aiteen rage and scream in agony, Cole told her to be quiet. These were just finger bones, and since Aiteen could somewhat see and sense through his eyes, when he lets them, she could confirm that these fingers were indeed from members of her family.
And while that was painful for her, Cole could see the fingers were still bleeding and extremely fresh too. This was proof that the king and his family were still alive, and that was the reason Cole had waited, he had baited them into giving him confirmation. If it had to take the little fingers of the king and his family to do so, then so be it.
