Technically, even from just the way they both carried themselves, Cole was the younger person, so him calling his opponent boy was something that really annoyed the man, enough that he also completely ignored the fact that there were darklings to deal with, it was obvious Cole was the bigger threat, and that was made all the more prevalent as the darklings themselves all turned to face Cole, in the end the reigning principle was the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
