Sitting in the waiting area of the busy Cambridge Foundation, a multi-purpose business that reaches all across the globe, Nathaniel Mills rested on the comfy leather couch, patiently waiting to meet with the person who had called for his services. He closed off his mind, sometimes getting annoyed by how much he hears because of his abilities but he's thankfully learned how to block everyone out when he wishes to.
As a Beta, Nathaniel is quite a handsome man, that much anyone could tell. With his short reddish-brown hair and striking blue eyes, he is wanted by many – not that they approach him because of his intimidating demeanor. At five-ten, he has tan skin and a lean, muscular body due to his weekly swim meets that he goes to that lasts pretty much all day.
He has a nice, trouble-free schedule thanks to what he does for a living. Many people might consider it immoral but it's how he has learned to survive. It's not like he is the worst kind of person out there.
"Mr. Mills." The secretary approached him, a big smile on her pretty face, instantly telling Nathaniel that she was an Omega, "Mr. Cambridge will see you now."
So that's who it is, Nathaniel thought to himself, rising to his feet, "thank you, Ms. Secretary."
Nathaniel followed her through the large double doors, walking down the corridor that would lead to the CEO's office. Nathaniel knows how a lot of businesses work and this was not his first time dealing with something like this. Money and power can make anyone do bad things.
Ms. Secretary paused at the large wooden doors, looking a little nervous as she hesitated to knock. Nathaniel was quick to notice this, wondering what kind of man would make their secretary afraid to even open the door. How strange, Nathaniel thought to himself, opening his mind again to hear her thoughts. They were close enough it shouldn't be too hard.
What does Mr. Cambridge want with this Beta? He's cute but he's not even an Omega. He can't do anything to appease an Alpha like I can. Are they going to do the nasty? How could this plain-looking Beta satisfy him?
Nathaniel wrinkled his nose in disgust, wondering why in the world this Omega secretary would be worried about him banging her boss. Although he does prefer men, that doesn't mean he's just going to jump into bed with just anyone.
Mr. Cambridge has been acting weird… I wonder if he's going into rut. Will that make him want me more?
He better not be going into rut, Nathaniel bitterly thought as he got fed up with this woman's thoughts, "um, are we going to knock and go in? I don't have all day."
It might've been colder than he intended, seeing how her head jerked around and she looked at him, wide-eyed. It wasn't his fault she was the one taking forever.
Who does this brat think he is?
"One moment." She responded coldly.
Ms. Secretary lifted her hand and knocked on the door, "Mr. Cambridge, your… guest is here. Can I let him in?"
"Of course, bring him in." Nathaniel heard a gruff response, the voice of an Alpha.
Nathaniel dreaded walking in there. He does not like Alphas very well. It was because of something that had happened when he was younger, and it has stuck with him for years to come. During high school, an Alpha had mistaken him for an Omega and tried to force himself onto him. If it wasn't for his younger brother, Nathaniel would've had worse things done to him. He knows that not all Alphas are like that but it's still a worry of his.
This Beta won't win over a top Alpha.
Nor do I want to, Nathaniel mused, tempted to roll his eyes. Ms. Secretary opened the door, giving him a warning look as he passed through the doorway. He didn't even care, not sparing her a moment's glance. He heard the door click behind him, steeling his spine.
Wow… so pretty.
"Are you Nathaniel Mills?" The Alpha asked, making Nathaniel look over.
Nathaniel was quick to recognize the Alpha sitting behind the large desk, a full city-view behind him as the whole wall was filled with windows. Charles Cambridge is the heir and CEO of Cambridge Foundation, and he was one of the most eligible bachelors in all of the country.
At six-five, Charles is a tall man and is quite intimidating. He would normally be wearing a suit but he discarded his jacket, rolling his sleeves up his muscular forearms, the thin shirt stretching over his gigantic frame. His short, wavy blonde hair was a mess on the top of his head, and his green eyes seemed to pierce through Nathaniel, knowing every single one of his dark secrets.
Interesting…
"Yes, I am Nathaniel." He murmured, making his way over to sit in the chair across from the Alpha, "what can I do for you, Mr. Cambridge? I'm sure you didn't call for me to just talk about nothing."
Charles' lips twitched into a small smile, crossing his thick arms over his chest, "you're right, Nathaniel. Is it okay if I call you that?"
"It doesn't matter to me." Nathaniel murmured, wondering what all of this is about, "now, why don't you tell me what you want."
Straight forward. I like it.
"I need you to investigate my biggest rival, Caesar Romanov," Charles explained, a dark expression flitting over his face for a moment, "I know about your special abilities, and I think it'll work with him. You're his type especially so it won't be that hard to get close to him."
Another Alpha, great.
"And how much are you paying?" Nathaniel asked.
Charles' eyes twinkled and he pulled out a check, handing it to Nathaniel. Nathaniel's eyes narrowed slightly as he reached out and took the check, looking at it curiously. He nearly had a stroke when he saw how many zeros were on the check, enough to last him a lifetime.
It was risky and he normally wouldn't do this, but…
He made the right choice.
"I'll do it. What do you have on him?" Nathaniel murmured, reaching out to shake Charles' hand.
Charles' eyes twinkled as he reached out, shaking Nathaniel's outstretched hand, "I'm happy to hear you say that."
Nathaniel just prayed he wasn't going to regret that.
