Chapter 74 - Capture the Banner (4) - 72

You were probably wondering why I called this announcement a "gambit", so let me explain it to you.

You see, as I could basically guarantee that none of the other teams had food, this meant that, in any case, they would head towards my position right now, just due to the allure of the food alone.

Now, here was the part that was a gamble.

You see, although I held all the food, the other teams could just band together at any point and steal my food.

And, with only 10, no, 8 people that could fight on my team, excluding myself and the nerd, we would be at a huge disadvantage.

So, as insurance, I had ordered the nerd to make a bomb, and I had placed the bomb in the middle of the food.

Now, all the other teams had to switch teams to gain access to the food, and so they would eventually all fall under my wing.

Of course, every plan had holes, and I knew that mine contained plenty.

And there was always the threat of outside variables, like the two that had somehow beaten me in the first test.

Remembering my defeat, I gritted my teeth, but then smiled again, as I knew I would win this test.

After all, due to the fact that I knew about the holes in my plan, that meant that I had created contingency plans for each of these holes.

I had even gone as far as to create contingency plans for the holes of the contingency plans for the holes of the core plan!

This was how far I had gone, and it just showed how much thought I had put into winning.

There was just no way that any of the other captains could win.

Especially that guy that had stolen my position.

After all, I was currently occupying the building where his flag was.

...

A Few Minutes Earlier, Right After the Announcement:

"Captain! They've taken over the building where our flag is!" I hurriedly reported into my earbud.

"So?" Replied his calm, cool voice.

"They haven't even tried to get halfway up the building. In all actuality, they're probably waiting for all of you to defect before claiming my flag as the final prize, just to rub it in my face and show me "my position"." Explained the Captain.

Hearing that my Captain had thought of everything, I sighed in relief, but then, another question came up.

"But what if that does happen?"

I mean, even though I had full trust in the captain, when it came to the point where it became a starving game and I was dying from hunger, I would gladly defect to keep myself alive.

"Don't worry, if you can just put your trust in me, this whole game will be over in less than a two days. After all, our team has already eliminated every single other team."

"?!!"

There was a sudden silence over the intercoms as the rest of us processed this.

After all, we had been able to get rid of 2 captains using our camping strategy, so that meant that the Captain had been able to single handily take down 6 other teams.

"How?" Asked one of the others over the intercom.

"I pinpointed where each team landed using their trajectories, a memorized map of the city in my head, along with my spatial mapping to figure out the exact buildings and floors that each team could have landed on. Afterwards, it was a matter of sniffing out where their flags were in the possible 20 minute radius around the area as the first 10 minutes was probably spent in the air."

Hearing this, we were all even more amazed at how skillful or captain was, to be able to find 6 flags during this short amount of time.

"So now, I need all of you to pretend to gather towards the tower as starving members of other teams."

'What?'

...

Looking at the amount of people that had entered the building, I couldn't help but wonder if there were any spies in the crowd.

After all, although we would make them switch teams before they could receive the food, they currently weren't able to do so yet, so they hadn't switched teams yet.

Picking up the microphone, I made another announcement to make sense of the chaos.

"Please drop all weapons and line up in an orderly fashion to change your team."

Almost immediately, probably due to how hungry they were, every number below immediately dropped their weapons without thinking and lined up restlessly like rabid dogs.

At least, that was what I had thought would happen.

Instead...

"BangBangBangBangBangBangBangBangBangBangBangBangBangBangBang..."

Hundreds of gunshots rang out below as every number below started open firing on my team.

Quickly switching over to my team's intercoms, I ordered them to blow the fuse on the food and then engage in a tactical retreat into the building and up the floors to my floor, using the rooms and staircases as cover.

Complying, my team was able to quickly regroup on the floor that I was on with minimal casualties.

We were also able to block the insurgents from breaching higher into the building by pushing tens, if not hundreds of pieces of furniture in front of the entrances into the floors including the elevator shafts.

'Well, you made me do it..."

Looking at the grim situation, I knew that there was only one option left, the last plan in my arsenal.

After all, I never expected for things to go this poorly. I mean, who wouldn't want the food?

My view of seeing the food as being the most important thing in this game was apparently wrong, but how?

I mean, didn't THAT guy also think the same?

I couldn't wrap my head around how he was able to convince all of those numbers to follow his plan.

Now, you might be wondering why I thought it was HIS fault instead of the other number that had beaten me.

Well, it was because I hadn't seen or even heard of the other number during the entirety of this test, so it was pretty obvious in my eyes really.

And now, he had finally proven himself a worthy opponent for me, probably the first in a long time.

I had grown prideful, believing that nobody could be smarter than me, but now that I was knocked down a step, I could see everything clearly again.

I would make him dearly regret his decision to go up against me.

This last plan had to work, after all, I had covered everything, there was no holes in this plan.

And, HE couldn't do anything to stop this.

"Boys... let's grab that sonuva bitch's flag."

Hearing this, my numbers immediately started breaching towards the upper floors.
