Chapter 72 - Capture the Banner (2) - 70

A/N: I forgot to celebrate the most important milestone last chapter, so, Woohoo! We got past the funny number! Just wanted to get that out.

We all got the item, but out captain said to store them, so we all just stuffed the item into our backpacks.

Our captain turned to leave, but then, he stopped suddenly.

"Oh yeah, I forgot."

Reaching into his shirt, he threw a small item at each of us.

"These are some earbuds that I can talk to you with. The earbuds will only be connected to me though."

Hearing this, we all understood the underlying threat, that he was listening in on all of us at the same time.

After we had all put the earbuds into our ears, he started talking.

"So, what do you guys think is the most important thing in this test?"

"To kill the opponents?"

"Wrong."

"To steal the opponent's flag?"

"Wrong."

"To protect our flag?"

"Wrong."

"..."

"No more ideas? Anybody?"

"..."

"Sigh... The most important thing in this game is food."

Hearing this, we were all taken aback for a second, but then, it all made sense.

You see, the Minders never gave us food, and never told us how to find it, so, for the teams that didn't realize this, they would start breaking from the inside before one of them would realize that they just needed to kill their own captain so that they could be taken out of the game and then given food.

"So are we going to get food first?"

"Yes, exactly, but let me give these earbuds to the three in the stairwell too."

"But Capta..."

I watched as he opened the door to the stairwell and my greatest fear came to pass, as bullets started flying out of the interior.

But, somehow, the Captain jumped at the last second, and he was able to avoid the bullets.

We couldn't see the rest of what he did, but we did here multiple bursts of gunshots, and sometime later, he walked out of the stairwell perfectly fine, with not a single drop of sweat on his body.

It was at this point that we realized, our Captain was a monster.

"Are you okay, Captain?"

"Yeah, and so are the three down there, but now, let's get going."

Taking off his backpack, he dumped the contents out, put on a cloak that completely covered his face and body structure, and then he started ripping the backpack into multiple strands.

Tying them all together, he then tied the makeshift rope to a pipe on the roof, before jumping outwards off the edge of the building.

We all watched as he flew outwards, before the rope caught and he flew back at a fast speed towards the glass exterior of the building.

"CRACK!"

Extending his feet out, he pierced through the glass and entered the building about 3 floors down.

"What are you guys standing there for? Grab the rope and get your asses down here!"

Hearing this through our earbuds, we all jumped into action and quickly infiltrated the building the same way that Captain had.

After we had all entered, we moved to the opposite side of the building, and then descended using the stairwell there.

Finally reaching the ground floor, instead of exiting, we continued to the basement levels, where the parking garages were.

I presumed that this was to trick the other teams into think that we had never left the building.

Secretly leaving through the garage, we entered onto the streets filled with concrete rubble.

Then, we heard the weirdest order ever.

"All of you, spread out and camp in one spot. Make sure it's easily defendable, and shoot any stray numbers that come your way. If it's a big team, then just hide. I'll be sure to bring you food every two days, just ration the food you get so that it lasts two days, and we'll all be able to win."

"..."

"Now!"

We quickly picked up our legs and each started running down different side streets, spreading around the city like rats in a gigantic maze.

...

"Were you able to hack into all the bandwidths of the other teams?"

"Yes, I'm connecting... now."

Pushing the hacker out of his chair, I started switching through the communications until I reached a certain one.

"All of you, spread out and camp in one spot. Make sure it's easily defendable, and shoot any stray numbers that come your way. If it's a big team, then just hide. I'll be sure to bring you food every two days, just ration the food you get so that it lasts two days, and we'll all be able to win."

Hearing the plan of the number that had stolen my spot, I smiled.

"Everyone, we're going to raid every single convenience store in the city!"

Rallying my troops, I started moving.

"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!"

"Clinkclinkclinkclinkclinkclinkclinkclinkclink."

Shooting 9 bullets, I immediately killed all of my lackeys.

'I can't trust anyone.'

Looking around, I prayed for their souls before quickly looting all of their dead bodies and then running off.

Traveling around the city, I spread my earphones around on the floors of some of the main streets, before entering a good sized building and rushing to the roof.

Seeing that I was on the 5th highest building in the downtown area of the city, I was satisfied, and so I set up my position here.

Pulling out the multiple snipers that I had gotten from the shop which had been supposed to have been given to my lackeys, I quickly armed all of them and positioned all of them around me so that I wouldn't have to waste time reloading whenever a big group passed by.

Then, suddenly, out of nowhere, my radio started ringing.

Picking it up, I held it to my ear.

A smooth, velvety voice started speaking from the other end.

"Would you like to switch teams?"

I was running in my designated direction, wondering about the Captain's plan, but then I stopped, as I found the perfect storefront to ambush other numbers from.

But then, out of nowhere, I felt a pain in the back of my head, before I fell forward and everything turned black.

Looking at the number of earbuds that were still connected to mine, I sighed.

"45 minutes in and I've already lost 2 lackeys... Sigh, at least the ones in the stairwell haven't seen any action yet. If they had, we'd be screwed."

Putting my earbud back in, I continued sneaking around through the streets, before finding one of the other teams.

Sitting in a position, I resolved to scout them out for another hour, before moving onto the next team.

This would be a long game.
