Chapter 13 - Waking up

Bai Liyue felt so tired.

It felt like she was walking through a dark tunnel for an eternity. She wanted to stop, but for some reason, she kept on walking. She wanted, no - she desired light. She had enough of this darkness already. Finally, after walking for a long, long period of time, she saw a small speck of light far away in the distance.

And so she kept walking and walking and walking towards that light.

As she grew closer to the light, it kept getting bigger and bigger.

Then, she reached the light.

She raised her hand towards the bright light, however, the moment she was about to touch it, it exploded. A big black hole appeared in front of her, and she felt a strong pull. Suddenly, the feet beneath her ground disappeared and she was sucked into that big dark hole.

####

At a big, private hospital.

A loud gasp sounded in the room.

Bai Liyue opened her eyes and felt almost blinded by the soft, dim light. It took a few minutes to adjust to the light. Confused, she looked around the hotel-like, room. It didn't look like her room.

Where was she?

She didn't recognize the room at first, but then she noticed the sound of slow, constant beeping beside her. She tried to turn her head toward the sound but couldn't move her head.

Her entire body felt heavy. Her limbs felt heavy and she couldn't move them.

Was she paralyzed?

This was the first question that came to her mind. The moment that question crossed her mind, she panicked. Her heart rate spiked up and the beeping frequency on the machine increased triggering a small alarm in her room. Hearing that sound, Bai Liyue was scared. Making a great effort, she finally turned her head and saw that it was a machine that was making that weird sound.

At the same time, she also realized that she was hooked on several medical apparatuses. Then it dawned on her, that she was in a hospital, and by the looks of it, her condition was very serious. The last thing she could remember was that she was surrounded by a lot of water. By a lot, she really meant a lot!

Slowly and gradually she began to remember everything. She recalled that dark starry night, being at the party, fighting with her husband, and then that mysterious masked woman. She remembered how she was pushed into that sea by that woman. Her limbs weren't working. She was drowning.

She almost thought she was going to die.

But, she was alive.

Who saved her?

Was it Qin Yufeng? Did he save her?

Where was he?

She turned her head trying to look around. Nobody was around. She felt exhausted. Her eyes started to droop, but she fought against it. She didn't want to sleep. She didn't want to go back to that darkness anymore. She wanted to see Qin Yufeng. She had a lot of questions in her mind and she wanted her answers.

After waiting for a long time, the door finally opened and a nurse walked in. "Oh my God!!! You're awake!!!" The nurse exclaimed in shock when she saw the patient's open eyes. She immediately pressed a button to call for the doctor.

"How are you feeling?" the nurse asked and began checking her.

"W-wa.. wa... ter...." Bai Liyue tried speaking but only a dry whisper came out of her cracked lips. Her throat felt dry and rough, burning with extreme thirst.

Fortunately, the nurse understood her. "You want to drink water? Wait a moment miss, Miss. We'll have to consult the doctor first. If he allows only then you can drink."

Coincidently, the moment when the nurse was finished speaking, the door opened for the second time. A middle-aged doctor entered the door wearing a white lab coat. "Hello, Miss. Can you hear me? I am Dr. Sun, your lead doctor." he said, pressing his stethoscope on several parts of her chest.

Bai Liyue nodded, lying quietly as she let him check her properly.

"How are you feeling?" the doctor asked gently.

"T-thirsty..." she croaked.

"Yes, she asked for water," the nurse told him.

"That's good. That's good. Help her drink some water," The doctor told the nurse.

The nurse nodded and rushed out of the room. After she left, the doctor did a few more check-ups and continued writing something on his notes. Bai Liyue glanced at the writing pad wondering what the doctor was writing but had no strength to peek at it. She frowned at the heaviness of her body and limbs.

"D-doc..tor," she called hoarsely. "A-am I? Am I para.. paralyzed?" she asked the question that was bugging her since the moment she woke up.

"What?!" The doctor gave her a funny look "No! You're not," he said to her with a smile. When he saw her taking a big sigh of relief, he smiled gently at her, understanding the reason behind her question.

"I understand why you asked me that," he said. "Your body must be heavy and you are not able to move your limbs. Don't worry, nothing is wrong with you. It was a great fall and you've been lying here for the last two years. Hence, your body might take a little time to recover but you'll be fine in no time."

"I-it's been two.... two years?" she asked, surprised at how long she was comatose for so long.

The doctor smiled at her. "Yes, it's been two years but now, it's great that you were finally able to wake up. You're quite lucky!"

Bai Liyue nodded, her mind still thinking about those two years. So, she was lying in this hospital for the last two years. Woah! That is a lot of time. She had missed so much in the past two years. She wanted to know a lot of things. What happened after she was pushed into that water?

Who rescued her?

Who was that mysterious woman?

Why did she want to kill her?

And, what about her family?

Her mom, her dad, her sister, where were they? Were they fine?

Suddenly, a handsome image flashed through her mind. Bai Liyue paused when she thought of him. Qin Yufeng.... where was he? How was he?

Was he okay?

How was he coping in the last two years?
