Josh looked back at him blankly and sighed helplessly, "You're so-" he said as he was interrupted.
"I'm so what?" asked Tom, a devilishly handsome smile on his face, "Handsome? Smart? Funny? Come on, make up your mind, which is it?" He then snapped his fingers as a thought occurred to him, "Or is it all of the above?" He added with a wink as he pointed at Josh.
Seeing him acting like this Josh couldn't help but laugh ,Tom had always liked to poke fun at Josh about anything and everything, recently not only that but he also started adding flirty comments here and there too. He had also become even bolder ever since they started school, his confidence had grown exponentially in just a short time. Josh could never get enough of his personality.
"You're such a nerd," he teased as he lightly punched the other boy.
"Why? Because I'm smarter and more knowledgable than you?" Tom replied as he stick his young he out slightly at Josh. He was trying desperately to act cool but he was actually enjoying himself, it felt good to tease someone else and to get them riled up.
"Yeah whatever, we'll see about that," Josh smirked as he clutched his plastic bag tighter, "See ya later loser!" He shouted as he started running in the direction of the school, leaving a dumbfounded Tom behind him.
"Hey! Wait up!" Called Tom after a moments hesitation as he scrambled to catch up to Josh who was already quite the way away.
After a while Josh seemed to slow down, seeing this Tom called out to him, "Getting tired already, are you? I thought you were fitter than this, mr. 'I'm not weak, I work out everyday.'" He mocked as he held his hand up in mock salute before he let his hand fall to his side as he continued running alongside Josh.
"That's right, I worked out this morning already so I'm just a bit tired is all." Scoffed Josh as he paced himself to just about keep up with Tom.
However, they both knew that the reaosn Josh has skein down was so that Tom would be able to catch up. This was as Josh knew Tom wouldn't be able to catch up on his own and the reason Josh would settle on to tell Tom later when he asked would be that he didn't like hearing Tom whine when he lost.
They ran side by side for a while, breathing heavily and talking between huffs. Once they'd reached the gates they slowed to a stop and leaned against the wall panting. They stood there catching their breath and Tom could finally breathe properly after being hyperventilating.
When they finally calmed down they checked the time on their phones and began walking towards where they were headed for their next class. They still had quite a while so they walked slowly, talking about random topics of interest on the way.
By the time they got to their classroom, they were both somwhat exhausted and ready to drop, but nevertheless decided to go ahead and enter.
As expected, the classroom was completely empty, the room was filled with nothing but silence and even the light was switched off.
Josh found the light switch and turned the light on as they both walked to the back of the room and plopped their stuff down on the table. They both then sat down briefly before looking over their stuff lying on the table.
Looking at the stuff they placed down they both let out a long sigh noticing they hadn't gone to their lockers to get their bags, the only things they had on hand were the books from the bookstore.
"Luckily we arrived early. Imagine what would've happened if the professor was here and noticed we didn't have our books?" Asked Josh as he shuddered slightly.
"She's quite strict, she'd yell at us in front of the class, at least." Said Tom as he remembered the incident.
They'd heard that two boys had been late to class once, and that no one in her classes had dared to be late after that.
It was said the lecture hall they had ended up sitting in was so loud they couldn't hear eachother even if they shouted to each other, but the professor had yelled at them from across the room and everyone had quietened down to look over at them.
She hadn't cared that she'd gotten her students' attention and just continued to call them out for ruining her lesson plan and for wasting her precious time.
The two boys had been incredibly embarrassed and to this day no one had forgotten their embarrassed and ashamed, somewhat angry faces. It had been a little under a year and people still talked about it at times.
The two boys stood up quickly and grabbed all of their things off the table so nothing would mysteriously end up getting lost or misplaced, or in other words, stolen.
They both slowly walked back out of the room and trudged over to their lockers which happened to be on the other side of the college. They weren't in a rush and had plenty of time so they didn't bother rushing or anything, on the way they laughed and joked around with each other.
Once they reached the lockers Josh opened his with the key he'd received in the post before he'd even stepped foot on campus and Tom did the same.
They put away their purchased books and switched them with their school textbooks and notebooks, along with their backpacks and materials.
The ended up grabbing everything they needed quickly and then they headed back to the room. They weren't in a hurry though, they weren't sure exactly how long they had until the lecture started but they knew they had plenty of time at the very least.
They plodded along to the room and once they'd reached it Josh pushed open the door with his hand and looked into the room, the light was still on and he saw someone sitting in the far leftmost corner of the room.
Whoever it was didn't seem to notice Josh and Tom entering and instead just kept on staring down at the papers spread out on the desk in front of them.
Josh and Tom glanced at each other confused and then shrugged and moved quietly in the room and sat on either side of whoever was seated at the desks.
However, Tom only agreed to do so as Josh forcefully dragged him along to sit beside the individual. They both carried their bags over as they plonked themselves and their bags down on either side of the person.
