With Zane gone, Rose tried to help Juliet. The other woman refused however to even willingly talk with her.
"I'm just trying to help you out. You look like you were in kind of a bad situation and needed someone to step in." Juliet only cast a cold gaze onto her. What problem did she have with her?
"I don't think you know what you're trying to get involved with. It would be better if you didn't do anything." Who did the other woman think she was to talk to her in such a manner after Rose tried to help her out?
"That's why I'm trying to talk with you so I can find out what I'm getting involved with and what you might need help with." The other woman shook her head in response to this. She certainly seemed fair less timid and meek than Rose first thought after seeing her in the car under Zane. Were people on the darker side of the world always so bipolar or were Zane and this woman a special breed?
"If you're not from our side of the world, you likely don't know what you're getting into." Juliet informed the other before deciding to leave. Rose wanted to reach out to her again but ended up completely ignored. Did she read the situation wrong? It certainly seemed like the other woman needed help dealing with Zane.
Watching the other walk away, the paralegal could only sigh. What a waste of time that turned into. She needed to get her mind back on to the real reason she had come to this side of town. Zane might've been right her cover could've been blown. If the name Rose Ashton made it around the area, her father certainly would have a number of questions for her. No paralegal has any right to act on their own or do what they please, it's bad form. The words rang in her ear from the inevitable lecture from her father.
Not to say what he'd say would be wrong, just Rose's ideals just fell elsewhere away from her father's. The one thing they'd not often see eye-to-eye on. Eventually, they might but Rose hoped she never became as jaded as her father. Those thoughts fueled her enough to take action on finding a method of transportation to take her to the desired location. She'd normally bother her brother who wouldn't ask questions if she paid him. Today of all days though, he happened to be stuck with their mother out of town. Thus, public transportation it would have to be.
She missed the bus thanks to the altercation with Zane leaving a cab as her next best option. Hailing one being something she didn't do often meant it took extra time for anyone to notice that she needed a ride. Apparently, there was some magic in the way one had to hold their thumb in order to get a driver to take notice. Magic no one bothered to teach her due to her family status. Just one more thing that her father would ridicule her for if word got out about it.
"Can you take me to this address please?" Rose held the piece of paper out for the cab driver to read through his open window.
"Sure enough. Might take a little bit to get there, but I can be certain that you make it safely." Good enough answer for Rose to get into the car. Being inside the cab meant she could finally pull her phone out and make a call to the person she would be meeting. The meeting took forever to set, she could only hope she wouldn't ruin it by being late.
"Hello? Sorry I'm running a few minutes late, is that going to be okay?" Rose bit her bottom lip. She could the other's hesitation before they even spoke.
"No. I promise that I won't have to make you wait for too long. I'm already on my in that direction. Something came up suddenly that put me off a little bit. If you can spare me a few minutes still I'm certain that I can help you." flat out begging the other to let her still come being out of the question, this was about the best Rose could to.
"Fifteen minutes? I think that sounds fair. We can start from there if you want and if you feel comfortable, we can add more time. I'll still be coming on my own. No one else will be there to hear what we talk about." Rose sighed softly as the person on the other end of the phone began speaking too quickly.
"Alright, alright. Don't worry about that. I will make sure everything is taken care of. I do need you to slow down though if you want me to understand what you're trying to say." Pulling out the notebook, Rose jotted down a few notes.
"That won't be a problem either. We can go somewhere else if you would like. Still private but out of the area if you're worried about anything." Glancing over at the cab driver Rose silently thanked herself for picking up a cab this once. No way would she have been able to make such a call on public transport. Too many people could overhear the conversation.
"That sounds perfectly fine to me. I think that we can figure out everything else once I am there. I will only be a few minutes longer until I get off to meet you. Try to stay in one place until then that way we can figure out everything together." Rose ended the call shortly after she finished speaking.
Nothing was going as she expected it to but that didn't mean she still couldn't make it work out. More time was the only thing she needed in order to make that happen.
