A gasp left the mayor's trembling lips; she unhanded the man. Her mouth was agape and her face paling further behind the sweat that washed it. The sound of a loud crack drew everyone's attention to Rose's enclosure, clouded by pink smoke.
Everyone stood still, frozen in fear when a pair of hands landed on the invisible barrier, made visible by the crack that spread across its center.
"T-The gas isn't working," the wide-eyed mayor muttered, referring to the pink smoke as she slowly stepped back.
Rose wasn't falling asleep. She suddenly woke when the gunshots started, and despite Dr. Fitz's best efforts, they couldn't put her back to sleep.
More and more cracks appeared in the barrier as Rose slammed her hands against it; her inhumane groans trembling the hearts of the men in the room. Yet, they stood their ground with their guns aimed at Rose, waiting on the mayor's command.
