Zelda hastily took the phone from the shaman and brought it to her ear. "Where are you, vampire? Why aren't you here yet with Amaira?"
Helen glanced at the three officers watching her and the two at the door. "I've gotten myself in a bit of a mess."
Zelda's eyes narrowed sharply at nothing in particular. "What kind of mess? Where are you?"
"I'm at the police station." Helen lowered her voice as she continued, "I had a bit of a run-in with a police officer turned vampire. He took Amaira and handed me over to his little police friends."
Helen's red eyes fell on the officer tapping his wrist with his index finger and her face twisted into a scowl. "I don't want to draw any attention to myself, so I can't kill them." She turned away from the officers with a frown. "And I can't compel them either; I can smell the Mimosa Pudica in their blood."
'How did that disgusting plant even become a popular tea brand?' she added in thought.
