Taranis furrowed his brows, "Why...Why would they come for me?"
"I don't know," Gaia told him between coughs. "There were at least a hundred of them; most seemed like normal, mindless ghouls, but there were some with intelligence, Taranis...actual intelligence like they could speak and even do magic."
Gaia shook her head, "I did my best to hold them off and I barely managed to; the ones with intelligence caught me by surprise."
Taranis frowned, "You should've let them have my body."
"But-" she tried to argue, but Taranis cut her off.
"I would've retrieved it later; what if the worst was to happen to you? I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing that because of me you died."
Taranis affectionately caressed her hair; he spoke softly, but his face held a stern expression. "Because of me you're hurt like this; I swear to you that I will make them pay for this."
