Chapter 34 - Eddie's stats

Eddie's eyes had a brief confusion, but soon, it got replaced by a revelation.

"Oh, you had mentioned it before. I meant to ask more about what it was or how it worked. "

Then Eddie closed his eyes as he started focusing on something. Time passed, and at some point, Zarin could see veins almost popping at Eddie's forehead.

"What are you doing? "Zarin questioned as the situation confused him. Opening the Status Window wasn't that difficult after all.

"Focusing on seeing that Status you had mentioned. Seems to be more complicated than I thought. Do I need to chant something? "

"…wait. Do you mean you haven't opened your Status since you entered my party even once? "

Zarin was sure that he had succeeded in opening his status window since he was very precise about what was the remaining time of the effects of the potions they had consumed.

'Could it be he just senses when it was the getting close to its end? '

This was the only option Zarin could think was the case. During the duration of the aura, he could feel it in it like an independent source of energy. Still, because his mind was drowsy, he couldn't tell if that energy was getting weaker as time passed or if there were any type of changes on it.

"Just focus on the word Status. That should do it. "

Soon, surprise-filled his eyes, as it didn't take him long to succeed with Zarin's advice. Even if he had said the world status window before, saying a word and focusing on it were two different things.

Eddie summoned a piece of paper and a pencil, and he started writing on it. It didn't take him too long to write everything, as he passed the piece of paper to Zarin when he finished.

There was everything on the Eddie's Status window written on it.

There was also a list of the skills that Eddie knew in the paper, but it had only the names. No mention of what rank or level those skills were currently at.

Since Eddie was accessing his Status window through the Party Mode, he couldn't see everything as detailed as Zarin.

'I need to ask Ais if the Part mode can be improved. '

Even if he had unlocked much knowledge of the Party Mode's functions, his guts told him he had many more to know about it. After all, what he currently knew was just a 1% for his [Knowledge-Otherworlders], and he was sure that there was more to it. He just hadn't fulfilled the proper requirements yet to learn it all, or he had to find something similar to the Journal to learn it from.

'His stats are so different from Kester's. I guess it makes sense since they have different Classes. '

Kester was level 25, meaning he had passed the bottleneck of an Advanced State D-Rank class, and he was considered a Master State D-Rank Warrior. So even if the difference was just a single level, it was the difference between earth and heaven in reality.

A person with an Advanced state D-Rank could fight a dozen Basic State D-Rank people and be the final winner. But, of course, that was the case if none of the Basic State people had any rare overpowerful Skill at their disposal, like Zarin's [Wind Rocket] or [Burst of Frost].

Even if those two skills were just C-Rank Skills, a person at the Apprentice State had a tough time earning one. Usually, only when passing the bottleneck to the Advanced State of their class they would have a chance to learn one. Even then, the chances were minimal.

When they would reach their class at Master State, then it would be much easier, and they would have a chance to earn B-Rank Skill, but the challenge was still very intense. Only having a Basic State C-Rank class gave someone a decent opportunity to learn a B-Rank Skill.

For Zarin, though, that wasn't the case. He still had restrictions on what type of skills he could learn, and some could have level restrictions, but skills learned through rewards from Quests, and similar events weren't restricted that way.

Of course, the chance of earning that high Ranking Skills at his level wasn't just because of his System, but because of his high [Luck]. He wasn't entirely sure what was the benefits of the [Luck]. Still, he was confident that it affected the chances of getting an excellent reward.

'Both Eddie and Kester had 10 [Luck]. 10 seems to be the base value that each stat starts from, so it looks like raising [Luck] isn't that easy. '

His Luck was already at 100, and he couldn't raise it even if he wanted. 100 was the max that a stat's base value could reach for D-Rank classes. Of course, that could increase with the use of equipment.

The only time he had seen something that increased a stat was at Kester's summoning Status Window. His Defense was 62 (22+40), which meant that his natural defense was 22 while his armor gave +40.

In the past, he had tried to see if the guards' armor back in the village had a similar effect, but after trying one, he saw no difference in his defense. Still, the armor was relatively larger than him, meaning he couldn't comfortably wear it, which could be why it didn't benefit him.

"So, how does it look? Are those numbers good or not?" Eddie exclaimed as Zarin hadn't talked for a couple of minutes.

"Eh…Oh… they are pretty good. Much better than mine. You sure have many tricks up your sleeve, I see, by the way. "

Eddie had read the list of the Skills of Eddie, and the amount surprised him. Eddie had a little over two dozen of Skills, and even if Zarin couldn't see their Ranks, he was sure that most were D-Rank at most.

A few of the Skills he had read them in the Journal as Lady Emlyn's father had learned them. From the naming, only he could tell which were Spell-like Skills and which weren't.

Even if Eddie had a little over two dozen Skills, only three or four seemed to be Spell-like Skills.

The percentage was quite low for a person with a Mage-based class who was at the Basic State D-Rank Class limit. For an average person with a Mage Bases D-Rank class to pass the bottleneck of the Basic State, they needed to learn at least a dozen of D-Rank Spells or Mana-related Skills.

That didn't mean they would pass the bottleneck if one knew that many Skills, but it was one of the unofficial requirements. Still, Eddie, who was at the edge of passing that bottleneck, knew less than half that number of skills.

The level for other people didn't work the same as Zarin as they didn't earn exp the same way as him. Specifically, for Mage-based classes, it didn't show their power in battle but their expertise in the Arcane Arts and their knowledge of related subjects.

This meant that unlike Warriors, who needed to physically train to raise their power aura or level, Mages needed to grow mentally. But having studied so much over the Arcane Arts, and the ways of the Shaman Class, even if Eddie didn't want to, it should have led to him learning some new skill or at least giving him an idea to make one.

'Is that another difference between a person without the System and one with it? '

Most information about how to earn a Skill came from the Journal. Meaning it was how an Otherworlder could learn a Skill. Although Zarin knew it didn't work the same for non-Otherworlders, he didn't expect to be that much different.

"How long has it been since you had an increase in your power aura? "

Zarin understood that Eddie could feel his power aura as it was something that most people with Classes could do to themselves.

Checking the power aura of other people wasn't that easy, and only people entering the Basic State of their D-Rank Class could learn to do so. Still, that didn't mean that everyone could.

But, of course, even if one could feel their power aura, it didn't mean they would be able to 'translate' it into a level, but Zarin could do with the help of his System.

Of course, there were cases where this 'translation' was incorrect. Still, Zarin was sure that he would find a better way to bypass those obstacles in the future.

"Hmm…. it should be close to a decade. It feels like my progress had hit an invisible wall that I can't pass, no matter what I try. "

The time surprised Zarin. Even if passing a bottleneck by definition was a challenge. If one spent that much time on it, what would be their chances to pass the next one in a shorter period?

Of course, a decade wasn't that much for Eddie as he could live hundreds of years.

"But if that ability of your can do what you said, maybe we can try to hunt a few of the nearby spirits. The ones around aren't that strong, so even just the two of us can take care of them. "

Eddie's eyes got wider as they got his excitement was raised.

But at the same time, he was worried.

When Eddie mentioned Pretti's name to him, he could see it over her head, as she didn't move too far into the woods. But, next to her name, there was also her level.

She was level 18.
