"Do you want to talk about it? Sometimes that helps," the woman's voice said sympathetically.
Did Laney want to talk about it? Yes. She had been bottling her feelings up without being able to talk to anyone about it because she couldn't. This had to look real or her friends would think she was a terrible person even more than she did.
She couldn't talk to Richard about it either. They were partners in crime, not confidantes.
"I…this isn't really something I can talk about. I'm okay. Just…um…could you check to make sure my makeup's alright before I go back out there?"
Laney wouldn't have asked at all but this woman seemed sympathetic to her plight despite not knowing what it was. There was no hiding the fact that she had been crying. It wasn't an unreasonable request.
"Of course," the woman said compassionately.
