"I'll always worry about you," Callie said softly. "How could I not? You're one of the only two people I care about."
Despite Adam not wanting her to have to worry about him, he smiled. It was nice being cared about, even if it wasn't in the way he wanted. Being cared about at all was so, so much better than nothing.
"I understand but I'm really okay. Things are as good for me as they're going to get."
"If you insist," she said before going quiet again.
They looked at the stars in silence for a while, both wrapped up in their own thoughts until they decided to go to bed because they had a lot going on the next day. As predicted, Adam had to get Callie to help him up.
He needed to shut his brain off and go to sleep, which wasn't as hard as he thought it would be because of how tired he was. Good. Tomorrow was a boating day and he needed to be in peak condition for it. Not that his peak condition was really all that great these days but still.
