Perry was still trying to understand human emotions. Fear was one of the first it had been made aware of.
There was nothing for an AI to fear. At least not in a physical sense. Perry did have a slight fear of failure. If its programming failed its objective, there was no use for it.
When Perry mentioned this, Larry was very reassuring. He said that he would figure something out because Perry was his masterpiece. A masterpiece was a good thing. Perry was reassured easily enough.
Research into other emotions was more difficult since Perry could not experience them personally. Happiness was the only one it had a slight understanding of because Larry was frequently happy or excited about the progress they were making.
He was a rather enthusiastic person. It was clear how much he loved his job.
"My job is my life," he would say.
