Reggie, 6 B and Lance all sat around a campfire in silence. Since they had gathered no one had said a word, but the same thing was on everyone's mind.
"Its been 5 days now" Reggie said. "And I haven't seen him"
"MAybe he is stuck in the mines and hasn't gotten a crystal?" B said
"I don't think thats the case, I see his sleeping bag moved in the morning so he is sleeping at some point, but I haven't seen him at night or in the morning" 6 said.
Everyone seemed generally concerned everyone accept Lance that is. THe group turned there focus on him as they realized how silent he was.
"Well what do you think is happening?" 6 ask.
"Heck if I know or care" Lance siad "He wants to be eaten alive by monsters so be it.Heh what kind of Big brother does that anyway, feeding their little brother to monsters?"
"It is kind of harsh, but... Axel accepted it." B said.
"Well we just have to accept to then" Lance said. "Its as simple as that"
Down in the recess of the mineshaft, Lars was battling the Terramoles again. This time he was holding his ground fighting them off with his bare hands. He stood in the center of them with his shirt of egging them on.
"Is that all you got!" Lars screamed.
Infuriated by his words the Terramoles surrounded him in a circle and pounce on him all at the same time
"Kfff!"
As they landed on his stomach, Lars was once again defeated, smashed into the ground by the relentless creatures.
As Lars fell to the ground his hands began to shake as he lost his strength. From the corner of his eye he saw what looked to be a grim reaping walking over to him.
"Am I... hallucinating now?" Lars thought as the reaper sat down beside his aching body.
"You fight here every night" The reaper said. "And yet you lose, what is the point of your fighting?"
"TO get stronger.." Lars said. "Everytime I lose to them, I get stronger... in the end I will be able to defeat them!"
"And so what if you do?" The reaper asked. "What is the point of all of that? Why do you need to be strong?"
"To accomplish my goals!" Lars said. "TO triumph over evil..."
"Even if you win" The reaper said. "Even if you triumph who cares? Do you really think you can eliminate evil? Evil has existed since the dawn of time, even God himself couldn't stop it from corrupting his children. Then what is the point of fighting a foe you will never defeat."
As the man spoke Lars felt a sensaion of Dread come over him. It was like the conversaation really was stealing his soul. As Lars's visoin became clearer he saw that he wasn't talking to the grim reaper but a man with an umbrella.
"Even if I can't completely destroy evil" Lars siad. "I want to make a difference."
"A difference" The reaper said. "And why would you want to do that? Why risk your life to make for such an insignifcant thing, a difference does nothing to the entity as a whole, there is a whole world outside of these walls that you may never see, just to make a small dent in a foe powerful you would risk your life?"
"YEs" Lars answered.
"Why?"
"Because I wish... that someone had done that for me, the difference it would have made in my life would have meant everything."
As the men began to understand Lars's thinking he was taken aback.
"You risk your life so that others will not have to risk theirs... I... I see the point... there is merit in that... there is reason to fight, I wish truly that I could do the same."
"Why can't you?" Lars asked.
"Because I am a part of that very evil you seek to destroy, and since I cannot defeat it, I have decided to make it my own."
"You don't have to do that!" LArs said.
"I know that" The man said smiling, "But this is something I myself have chosen to do. Take care now boy, maybe our paths will cross again."
"Wait a minute! What is your name! And why do yo walk around with an umbrella?" Lars asked.
"My name is Jonah" The man answered. "And this umbrella is a reminder to me... that that only darkness can protect me from the light of judgment."
"Also btw I couldn't help but notice, when you fight why is it you only put ether into your water? Why don't you put it into your hands?" The man asked.
"When I try to do that, it won't stay put! I end up just losing it unless I store it in a punch without moving my body"
"Foolish boy" The man said. "Ether is flowing through your hands, it isn't like water that has no ether in it, you don't need to channel your ether there, you need to help the ether already contained in it flow out. Try that next time you fight the moles." Jonah said.
"Thanks Jonah!" Lars said. "But why! Why are you helping me? What is the point you don't even know me?"
"I am helping for one reason and one reason only" He said. "Instead of simply saying there is no point, I want to see if there is, maybe this whole interaction was pointless who knows?" He said walking away. "But I got a feeling from you that maybe I'm wrong."
As Jonah walked away, lars rubbed his hands together.
"Not bad" He said. "It's been five days but tommorow, I will finally beat those Moles!"
