Chapter 26 - The Starting Move

Vayne Belladonna slammed his two hands on the table, gritting his teeth. Jocelyn walked to his side and comforted her husband while feeling the same as Vayne.

"No wonder that child had been quiet recently," stated Jocelyn. "Come and take a seat, darling."

"Adriana Belladonna, what in the world are you thinking?" Vayne yelled at her, who stood straight in front of the two.

Adriana wanted to laugh out loud seeing the family head lose his head. If she were, to tell the truth. Neither of them would believe it. Even if she told the truth, they would not believe it.

This was hard for the Belladonna. As they cannot simply reject the proposal of Astell Skydane. Since they had announced wanting to become friendly with the other three families. They cannot take their words back.

The plan of Vayne Belladonna was a lot. He had lots stored for the future of the Belladonna, knowing the potential of his three children.

"Don't tell me two years ago you intentionally had let him off?" Jocelyn pointed her finger at Adriana, who frowned.

"Madam Jocelyn, have you forgotten? We attended a tea party and came back together. How can I free him when he was my favorite toy?" Adriana frowned and faked a sniffle. "I don't even remember much after I turned wrecked."

Jocelyn furrowed his brow, wanting to say more but could not. It was true when Adriana turned crazy and after fell ill. Also, it was impossible for Adriana to let go of something she liked. After all, once a Belladonna will forever be a Belladonna.

"So, how did you meet him?" Inquired Vayne massaging his brow. "And you do know what we are after?"

The item almost anyone and everyone wanted to possess was the chalice of life. An item that can bring back the undead. Though it is only a legend, many believe it was real. And in the past, they managed to possess it, and things went downhill.

"Hmm, unfortunately, I do not know. I've not been invited to the family meetings after all," answered Adriana, gaslighting Jocelyn. For the past two years, she had not allowed Adriana to enter.

"I'm furious you did not tell me anything," sighed heavily Vayne for the third time. "I'm still your father. And you should know that marriage is important.

In the past, Adriana married Issac. Yes, in the end, she couldn't avoid marrying him. No matter how hard she tried. Her suitors always ended up dead. At one point, the people started to call her a black butterfly.

But this time, it was different. Even if Issac was strong. Astell is much stronger than him. Though Adriana did not know what happened next since she died early.

"I apologize," Adriana lowered her head, faking to look pitiful. "I was afraid to tell you since Madam Jocelyn and Madam Ebony had been pressuring me."

"Madam? How dare you address me that way when I am your mother?" Jocelyn glared at her while Adriana wanted to roll her eyes away from her.

"Calm down, Jocelyn. Adriana might be in her rebellious stage. But think about the bright side," convinced Vayne, bringing this marriage one step closer. "If Adriana marries that guy. That would mean we are trying to grow closer to the other family. We'll use them until each one of them dies."

Adriana smiled and nodded her head like a child. Though this wasn't her intention, she'll let it go now. She wanted to avoid her and Raven's death. Then after changing the whole system of this family.

"Yes, I managed to fool the man, and he's taken quite a liking to me," Adriana sat down and crossed her legs. "I can be the spy under a condition."

The word condition turned the smiles into ashes. They were not ready to hear it just yet. But of course, Adriana had to bring it up.

"Of course, I'm not doing this for free."

In a separate room screamed a man. He was putting a tantrum out and breaking the furniture into pieces. The servants were too afraid to approach Issac as they saw Lucifer out.

Issac could not control his anger, hearing Adriana marrying a different man. The fear of losing his toy was unbearable, which he would never allow. His veins were popping out of his forehead, which looked like they might explode.

"How dare she do this to me?" Issac slammed his hands once more on the table, which was broken into half. "It's him, isn't it? That Astell Skydane?" Issac gripped his fist and laughed out loud.

Lucifer continued to watch Issac ransack as a servant. He was unable to do anything. But his heart was nothing but filled with guilt. Yes, companions do have feelings.

Many think of Lucifer as a fallen angel, and they are not wrong. He is a fallen angel from heaven who became the leader of hell.

However, Lucifer was summoned by force, and so was the contract made with force. With his power being a lot weaker due to Issac, he couldn't do anything. Unless someone triggers a weakness of his.

"Lucifer, I ask you. What is there in me that she dislikes? I look handsome, intelligent, a war hero, and other more. Why does she not yearn for me?" asked Issac lighting a cigarette on the tip of his lips.

Lucifer, however, did not reply. He did not know how to answer him and did not want to anger him any more.

"I don't know the feelings of humans," lied Lucifer, which Issac glared at him but had let go of him.

"I see. Of course, what did I expect from a companion like you? Well, just continue to stay quiet and do your job," Issac loosened his tie and threw it on the ground. "Let's see what else you have in your sleeve, Adriana."

Adriana was back in her room, and seeing her smile Yashiro concluded things went well. What was all left was an official letter from Astell Skydane. Though there were a lot more things to talk about with him.

And that was a marriage without love.
