It was raining heavily outside, the streets were nearly devoid of life and eerily silent. Only the sound of humming machinery and muffled footsteps echoed under the dark starless night.
"What're you saying now father? We'll have to start the exams as early as possible?"
"Yes child, we'll have to start the entrance exams to the academy as soon as possible. I can feel something interesting is about to happen soon..."
Two shadows were seen sitting before a fireplace right inside their dormitory. One had a bulky and muscular frame, while the other had a tall and slim frame.
Right inside the room, Nix and her father were busy discussing about the exams into the Universal Mutant Academy.
"I don't want the admission to be delayed any further... the exams start the day after tomorrow and that's final!" Skycolm shouted before walking away from the fireplace and out of the room.
Seeing the door slam shut before her, Nix sighed then slumped down to the ground. Hugging her knees she stared at the wooden tiled floor with a pondering expression, her face attaining a shade of red from the heat of the flames.
'Examinations moved back? What kind of trouble does father feel that make him so eager to send us out into the outside world?'

Miles outside the base, Vedora's bullet ridden car came to an abrupt halt. After two seconds of pause, various parts of the vehicle finally came apart.
Vedora grunts as she elbowed the door opened and alighted from her broken ride. Her once fair and vibrant face was now as white as a sheet of paper.
Blood oozed out of the gash on the side of her belly which was barely covered by Vedora's small hand. The blood on her lips were washing off with the rain, her wet brows knitted together.
Vedora took shuddering steps forward, right through a force energy field always built to prevent humans from seeing what's within. Only those with altered genes like Deviants, Mutants and Variants could cross it.
Looking around herself, Vedora heaved a sigh. There weren't any mechas here... she would be fine for now. Looking ahead and seeing a group of sleeping men guarding the base gates, she frowned.
Walking close to them she bent over and let a drop of water from her face drop into the wide open mouth of one of the men.
The poor guy woke up with a start, his eyes dilates as he scanned the environment only to see a petite looking girl staring at him while blinking her large innocent eyes.
"Step back! Who are you? State your name and quarters!" The guard shouts as he drew out his large xylion energy buster. Only after looking down and seeing blood did the guy's expression toughened.
His colleagues woke up unwillingly while letting out audible yawns. One of them nearly fell off his chair while yawning.
"Who's that?" A chubby guard spoke with a frown on his face. He instinctively reached for his energy pistol after seeing the ghastly injury on a girl's abdomen.
"Hey kid, stand still... I want to run a test on you." A guard who was as tall as a tree spoke up as he fished out a square-like device from his pockets with a dark frown on his face.
'They want to see if I'm infected... do I look like a variant to them?'
Vedora bit back the pain and did as she was told, standing still and allowing the tre- ahem! The guard to get closer to her.
The tall guard placed the device on Vedora's head, but instead of the usual beeping sounds no sound was heard at all. Even strangely the screen on the device remained blank, simply glaring at the tall tree.
"Huh... something is wrong. Why can't the Sensor Machine read her energy?" The guard frowned as he tapped the big 'start' button in red again, a bead if sweat ran down his face. Even humans have little amount of cosmic energy stored in their genes, how come none was read coming from the girl?
Was she one of the legendary New Humans who are immune to the large reserves of cosmic energy around them? Bit, most of them are wannabe superhero deviants... could she be one two?
"Sir, I think the reason nothing is displayed is because I'm an injured Space Deviant... my space energy has consumed all the reserves of cosmic energy within me to survive leaving me in a critical position..." Vedora lowered her head and balled her fists, "That's why I came here... as for why? I cannot disclose to you..."
"Eh? Can't disclose to me? To any of us? Who do you think you are? Do you want to be left out here in the rain to die?" The tall guard was flaring, his eyes staring daggers at the petite girl before him.
Vedora only shook her head in response to the guard's question. No, of course she doesn't want to die.
If she wanted to die, she wouldn't have ran here. She wanted to live, heal, then vengeance comes in.
