Chereads / Beneath The Cloudy Sky / Chapter 5 - "Waking up to your voice"

Chapter 5 - "Waking up to your voice"

Yang Feng was getting close to his deathbed but before he could cross the gate of the afterlife a force pulled him back as a voice kept getting ringed inside his head.

"Yang Feng! Yang Feng!"

A voice he didn't hear for a decade yet he knew who it belonged to.

.

"Yang Feng Wake up!" That voice was now a little louder than before and Yang Feng subconsciously opened his eyes meeting the warm sunlight that almost blinded his vision while the smell of antiseptic tingled his nose.

.

He pulled his hand before his eyes as he groaned,

" Yang Feng, Are you okay?" A voice as light as the warm sunlight that gave the feeling of innocence spoke. Yang Feng slowly removed his hands and his eyes meet with another pair with a dark black set of almond-shaped eyes along with double eyelids.

.

She stood near him to block the sunlight and her ebony hair shined like the golden silk underneath the sunlight and her small pale skin face kept looking at him with pure concern.

"...Xiao...Xiao Ning..."

"Yes?" She replied and the first thing that came to his head was to check his surrounding which didn't look like hell or heaven but more like a small medical space just like the one he had back in his school.

.

The girl before him was the same Xiao Ning he dreamed of not long ago well and alive. And his heartbeat was going crazy but he couldn't get the reason why?

Was it because a dead person was alive? Or was it because she was alive?

.

"The teacher must be looking for us, Let's go." She said ignoring how weird he was behaving.

"Wait!" He said as he grabbed her wrist, which Xiao Ning without any second thought pushed away a little too hard as Yang Feng once again fell on the white bed.

.

"Ouch!" He said while rubbing the back of his head that hurt like hell.

"I--I'm sorry!!" She said while looking pale and before he could have another word with her, the room's door opened and a girl with short neck length hair entered the room.

"Ling?" Both of them said at the same time.

.

"Xiao Ning! What's taking you so long??" She groaned while looking at the tiny girl and then at Yang Feng.

"You... did you do something to her?" Ling asked as she held Feng by his collar making him choke.

"Ling, leave him. He didn't do anything...I was the one who pushed him..."

"Huh? What?" Another character with sliver perm hair and hazel eyes said as he entered the room with a shocked face.

.

Yang Feng knows this boy very well as he is no other than his long term best friend, Zhang Yuan.

.

"You! Did you push him? With such tiny hands and he a 6 feet tall creature just fell? Hah, Yang Ge are you playing the damsel in distress?" He said while chuckling which stopped only when Ling hit him on his head.

.

"Haha, so funny. You clown!"

"Ouch!! Ling Jia (sister), why did you hit me?".

" Oh sorry, I thought you are our school bell so I thought of hitting it."

"Jia, that's made of steel and my head isn't!"

"Oh but it's the same inside *touches his head* Empty." She said with a smirk while Zhang felt his blood reaching his ears.

.

"What's happening? I was clearly hit by a truck, wasn't I? So why am I here?" Feng questioned himself and the moment his eyes met with Ning, he felt a sudden pain in his head where his accident was still fresh in his memories. "This can't be real..." he murmured and the next thing he did was run out of the room.

"Yang Feng!"

"Feng Ge, school isn't over yet. Come back!" Ling and Yuan shouted but he just kept on running for God knows where.

.

"What's wrong with him? First, he collapsed right in front of us and now he is running away from us as if we are some kind of ghosts."

"But I'm not ugly," Yuan said as he looked at his reflection on his phone's screen and received a hit on his head again by Ling.

"Clown!"

.

"Ouch...Hey, NiNi did something happens between you two?"

"Why are you calling her NiNi? And what could happen between the two of them?"

"Because I want to and a lot can happen behind the closed doors."

"Gross! Don't talk rubbish."

"I wasn't talking to you anyway. Now Ning tell me did something happen or did he say something weird?"

"No"

.

"Okay, so cold. Then maybe he lost one of his screws. Come on let's get back...but what subject do we have now ?"

"I dunno, Ning? Ning?" Ling called but Ning didn't respond until ling flicked her forehead.

"Ah! Ling!"

.

"Stop Daydreaming and focus. What period do we have now?"

"Oh, We have maths now."

"Shit, Hey Yuan did you do your homework?" Ling asked as she held him by his collar and they once again started arguing while Ning looked towards the bed where Feng was asleep not long ago.

.

"Xiao...Xiao Ning..."

"Did I hear him wrong?" She thought when suddenly she remembered tears flowing down his chin which made her heart tighten a bit.

"Yang Feng, what are you up to?"

.

Meanwhile, Yang Feng right now was standing under the same cherry blossom tree where once Xiao Ning's grave was present but now it was empty even the road where he got into an accident was all clear without a single trace of blood to be found.

"Just what in the world is happening?" He shouted at top of his lungs while kneeling on the ground, but despite his worries, there was absolutory no one who could answer his questions.

.

"Everything happens for a reason...." A voice said from behind and when he turned around he saw a girl around the age of 12 standing before him with a flower basket full of dried lilies.

"And you need to find that reason yourself...That's what my grandmother used to say."

"Who are you?"

"I'm a living human being, don't worry I am not a ghost or something trying to show you your way."

.

"Really then what are you doing here all alone? I bet you are not here for a walk with those lilies, are you?"

.

"Gege is quite funny, No, I am not here for a walk and I just collected these lilies from my grandmother's grave to replace them with fresh ones."

"But what are you doing here?"

Before Feng could answer the clouds started to rumble and the once clear day turned into a dark day.

"Maybe we should look for a shelter, getting soaked in rain will get us sick. Gege how about you come over to my shop it's just a little walk away from here."

.

Feng didn't have a choice so he just followed her to her shop only to meet a new surprise.

"This---This is your shop?" He asked with shaky fingers as he stood outside the shop which was the same one he went to on the day of his accident.

"Yes? Uhh, it's quite small compared to others right. But believe me, our flowers are the best out of all as they all were cultivated by my grandmother herself." That girl said as she opened the door and went inside followed by Feng.

.

"Your Grandmother...the one whose grave you visited today."

"Yeah...she passed away last month..."

"I'm sorry..."

"It's okay"

.

"But you know you shouldn't talk so freely with strangers...they can be dangerous."

"Hehe, I know you aren't dangerous." She said as she looked at a photograph in her hand.

.

"Did your grandmother say that too?" Feng asked as he smiled, the girl looked at him and then handed her the photograph before answering with a "Yes"

.

Feng smiled thinking she was joking but soon his smile disappeared as he looked at the picture and his hands started to shake. As that photo consists of both that girl and the same old woman he met on the day of his accident.

.

"That's my grandma and she told me about you....and her." With that words being said Feng could feel his heart reaching his throat. He kept the Photograph at the table and just ran away from there chanting every God name he knew.

And he was calling for them so dearly that even the almighty couldn't ignore him so he blessed him with Rain.....

.

"Could this day get any worse?" He cursed under his breath while walking on his way home all wet.

And as he reached his home after walking for around 30 minutes he realized...he forgot his bag at school where he usually kept his keys, phones and purse. A good and careful habit of his 18-year old A-class student self.

.

"If only I could hit myself." He said while ruffling his hair and kicking a piece of the can which was lying before him.

"Ouch!" Yuan said as he appeared from behind a wall with messy hair and red eyes.

"Seriously is this how you treat a dear friend who has been waiting for you for the last 3 hours?"

.

"Yuan! I'm so sorry. Did it hurt a lot?"

"No, but it did hurt here a lot." *points at his heart*

"You need a beating." He said while rolling up his sleeves.

.

"No, Ge I was kidding. Here take your bag and change quickly or else you will catch a cold." He said while handing him his black coloured pollo bag.

"I will be leaving then. See you tomorrow!" Saying that he made his way towards the exit.

"Thanks!" He said while looking at him leaving while Yuan just waved his hands and exited the rusty gate and Feng without wasting a second opened the lock, went to his room picked some clothes and ran to the bathroom for a warm shower.
