Liam conveyed Rory's change of heart to the prosecutors. Rory was sitting by his side, listening in on the call.
The prosecutors were trying to stop the defense lawyers from filing a motion against the testimony of Sidney. The defense argued that Sidney is not mentally fit to be on the witness stand. They even had medical reports of Sidney that exposed the amount of abuse she had endured over the years and how it had altered her brain chemistry.
Guess who confessed to abusing Sidney.

He grew conscience out of nowhere and he decided to set it straight and "ask for forgiveness".
Still, Sidney was a liability. She in her current mental state was like a cat on the fence. She can jump either this side or that side. Her testimony could either affect Lennon's sentencing or help Lennon. Lennon apparently didn't want to take that bargain. And he also wanted to push Rory to the stand.
Rory rolled her eyes.
