***JAKE'S POV***
"Jake?" Archer called after me as I practically ran out of the room. I didn't stop though. I needed to think. I needed to get some air into my lungs. I needed to settle my heart and my mind. If I let this get to me too much, then I would end up being removed from the case and I would not be able to find Alex.
However, more immediately, if I didn't start to actually breathe, then I was going to pass out. It was like I was not really able to draw air into my lungs. It was so hard to move, to think, to do anything. And for some reason, my entire body was ice cold. Where had all the warmth gone?
I ran to the stairs and then went up. And I didn't stop until I got to the roof. I needed to have a moment to myself, and this was a great place for me to do that. There was air to breath, cold to clear my head, and no one around me to hear my screams of frustration.
