Barton slowly dropped his cup while wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, Daniel watching him as he sipped his own wine.
"You're kidding," Barton leaned back into his chair and crossed his arms, a deep, smouldering look in his eyes. "Right?"
"I'm not."
"This isn't something to joke about." He warned his younger cousin, narrowing his eyes at him.
"Yeah. I know that. That's why I want you to be my Beta."
Barton simply leaned back, covering his mouth with his fist as if he wanted to say something but thought against it.
Daniel downed his drink and reached forward to refill his cup, his face etching with a small frown at his cousin's strange motions.
"What? You don't want the title?"
"It's not that, but me? Seriously?"
"Yes you. What happened? You don't think you're fit to rule by my side."
Barton rolled his eyes.
"Idiot. I just don't feel I'm the Beta you'd need by your side. I mean… have you met me?"
