Leon nodded appreciatively as he studied his status within the safe confines of the cathedral hall. After killing the four Ghost Millipedes, he had gained a couple of levels and his stats had gone up again. His intelligence, strength, and durability had climbed a few points again. The only stat he had a bit of trouble figuring out was how his mana scaled with the increase of his intelligence, but he figured that it would become clear as time passed.

"I'm getting stronger, slowly, but surely." He said to himself.

After a bit of rest, Leon crept out of the cathedral once again to hunt down some more millipedes. He was eager to increase his strength so that he could handle the large millipede that had nearly killed him the day before.

As he crept across the dry purple bloodstains and cold, half eaten corpses of the millipedes, the sound of a battle reached his ears.

"Are some of the millipedes fighting? Or maybe there are some other monsters in the town." He wondered. He slowly moved in the direction of the sounds while being careful not to attract any attention. The further he went, the more he noticed that there were no signs of any of the millipedes running around the town.

"Maybe all of them are fighting... I can reap some easy kills from them if I manage to time my attacks well!" The darkness that lingered around his empty eye sockets seemed to swell and grow in response to his flaring joy at being able to get some easy kills.

"Let's go!"

With a bit more confidence and urgency, he began to make his way across the fields of rubble and half collapsed houses. Even though he was in more of a hurry, he still made sure to keep is guard up.

After a few more minutes of jogging through the desolate town, Leon finally came across the battle site.

Dozens of millipedes clashed with centipedes of similar sides in a vicious crush of bodies. Mandibles snapped shut, and bodies were snapped in half as both species put their powerful, yet fragile bodies to the test against their enemies.

With a slack jaw, Leon watched on as the two different species of arthropods clashed against each other. He only had one thought, and that was why the heck it had to be such disgusting creatures that he met immediately after coming to this world.

"Fine..." After coming to the terms that he had no choice in his transmigration, and where he ended up, he finally accepted that he needed to do what he had to do.

Leon studied the flow of the battle for some time as he targeted the farthest pair of arthropods from the main battle. He waited until they had both inflicted considerable damage each other before he leapt out of his cover and stabbed his sword into their wounds in quick succession.

Scree...?

Both of them were shocked and had no opportunity to react as their vital areas got targeted by their unknown assailant.

With how heated and fast paced the battle was, none of the other creatures noticed that their kind was killed by an outsider.

Screeee!

All of a sudden, two loud screeches rang into the air as some new soldiers made their presence known to the battlefield. The large millipede that Leon had ran into the earlier day had arrived on the battlefield, but Leon noticed something that made his dark bones shiver - There were over two dozen specimens of the larger millipedes! And the centipedes also had a similar number of larger specimens that rivalled the millipedes' numbers.

"So... there were so many of that kind of monster, lurking around here and waiting to munch on my bones?!" Leon cursed as his teeth chattered in fright.

"Dammit, Leon! Focus!" Suddenly regaining his focus, Leon slapped his bony cheeks to rouse the courage that simmered within his hollow chest.

Picking up his sword, he inched closer to the next group of fighters. This time, a pair of centipedes were ganging up on a lone millipede. The millipede was obviously on the losing end of the battle, and was constantly being beaten back as it endured vicious attack after vicious attack.

While fighting their lone foe, the centipedes caught the flash of a dull metal before the head of their foe was hewn off. They turned to face the one who butted in on their fight, but before they could complete their turn, the head of one of the centipedes was separated from its body.

Scree?

The last centipede only felt a cold, hard object lodge itself in a bleeding wound at the base of where its head connected to its body, before the light in its vision faded and its consciousness drifted away.

[Level 6 Ghost Millipede killed. You have leveled up!]

[Level 4 Ghost Centipede killed.]

[Level 5 Ghost Centipede killed.]

With how easily he dispatched the three creatures, Leon's spirits were once again on a rise. He watched the battle some more from behind cover as he studied which group to attack again. There were some one on one scuffles at the edges of the battlefield, while the middle was filled with more bloody group fights that he had no intention of interfering with.

Leon made his way around the battlefield, picking off the creatures that were engaged in one on one fights, one by one, until there were only group fights in smaller numbers remaining on the outskirts of the battlfield.

[Level 6 Ghost Centipede killed. You have gained a level.]

[Level 4 Ghost Centipede killed.]

[Level 7 Ghost Centipede killed. You have gained a level.]

[Level 3 Ghost Millipede killed.]

[Level 5 Ghost Millipede killed. You have gained a level.]

...

By the time Leon had made his rounds and cleaned up all the one on one fights, he had already reached level twenty four. It was a good haul, but he was not satisfied.

"I need to get stronger. Who knows when I will get another chance like this?" He was feeling more daring.
