Since he's wearing a suit, I decide to wear the green dress that Mariano got for me the other day and the heels I wore on my wedding day. I don't bother with makeup except for a single swipe of rose-nude lipstick, and then I go downstairs.
He's already waiting for me at the door, wearing an all-black suit. But his attention is on the person he's talking to on the phone. That is until he glances in my direction and he freezes, taking me in as I stroll towards him. The way he looks at me makes me feel warm and I don't know if I like that.
I hear him rush a goodbye and an "I'll call you later" before he puts his phone into his pocket, still looking at me. He eyes my dress—the dress he left outside my door the other night.
"Am I too dressed up? Should I change?" I ask.
Mariano shakes his head. "No. You're…" He looks away, clearing his throat, and then grabs our coats from the closet. "The dress fits you. You look good."
