The crowds rushed upwards as fast as they could, white fog covering their transparent gas mask as they breathed heavily. Finally, they got to the 35th floor. In this place, they could no longer hear the moaning nor listen to the groaning of those life reapers.
They rested on the steps, drenched in cold sweat as they imagine what would have happened had the doors not been locked.
"That was exactly what I was talking about!" Jonathan immediately stood up as he growled in anger.
"You should keep quiet now Jonathan." The brown-haired mid-thirty Katniss reprimanded with a frown.
"No, I kept quiet before and we almost died because of it. What about next time? Uhn?" His voice raised a few octaves.
"You should know we can't just turn our backs on survivors when we meet one, it's during times like this that we must unite. With our numbers, we can comfort each other and deal with any unexpected attacks." Peter adjusted his glasses and whispered.
Jonathan immediately sneered. "Unite my ass! If you want unity, the zombies out there love teamwork, they would be glad for you to join their team, moreover, they don't argue with each other and even have the same goal in mind."
"Alright, that's enough. We are almost on the 40th floor where the luxurious suite offices start from. We wouldn't need to worry about space, resources or zombies. We can hold out for a few weeks or even months until communication is restored or the government extend their hands over this area to help. But for now, we need to stick together and help each other. I know you mean well Jonathan, but your words are freaking the others out." Now that Jacob mentioned it, Jonathan tilted his head, glancing down at the crowds on the stair.
They were already afraid, but Jonathan's words made them even more afraid. Some glared at him with hate in their eyes. Jonathan was practically saying they shouldn't save any more people and maybe even discard a few people here, how could they not feel hatred in their hearts. If given the chance, they might just attack him in his sleep. Jonathan snorted, he was also beginning to feel fear. At tunes like this when human morals are worth nothing, who knows what people might be angered by his words and might be planning again him. He turned away to sit on the bloodied stair, swallowing his remaining words.
"Alright, we've had enough rest, it's time to go." Upon Jacobs's words, the twenty-some people stood up quickly and they headed towards the 40th floor.
After what seemed to be an eternity, the group finally arrived at the 40th floor.
"Wait here. Peter, Jonathan, and Katniss, guard our back in case a zombie sneak past us. Glinda and Daveen, protect the team from behind. While I and Ryver will clear this floor off the zombies. Leave the door open for easy retreat." Saying this, Jacob motioned towards Ryver and carefully opened the floor to the floor.
Jacob entered and Ryver calmly followed. Within their line of sight, there were five zombies roaming within the hallway.
Jacob went ahead, eliminating the zombies with his long sword. He flung the bloodstains off the sword.
"I got this sword from my boss's treasure collection. Sadly it is just an imitation of the original Tang sword, but its sharpness is on another level." Jacob confessed, happily caressing the steel blade.
Ryver gazed at the sword and nodded admittedly, it was a decent weapon.
"I see you prefer the Axe, anytime you get to the fifth floor, visit room 112, my boss has two double-edged Axes hanging by the wall. It should be of great help to you." Jacob suggested.
Ryver kept the information to memory, he needed a more durable weapon. The fire axe was starting to chip by the blade and the wooden handle is also showing slight cracks of splinters. A few skulls later, the durability would decrease to the point it would be rendered useless. When that time comes, he will have to rely on his blades, which wasn't ideal in close combat.
Jacob picked up three key cards from the corpse's pockets after searching through them. Although he was disappointed, there was nothing he could do about it.
"Let me go clear the restroom while you clear the Janitor's closet." Jacob suggested.
Ryver nodded and then headed to the Janitor's closet, there was no one within the Janitor's closet. He took his two blades and washed the stains off of them with water before carefully cleaning them with clothes.
Ryver's behaviour was extremely odd. He would never have endured taking orders from anyone, and neither would he waste his time with the group since he could be out there farming for Evo points. But no one knew what was running through his mind.
"It's all clear." Jacob smiled but then his expression turned serious.
There were thirty rooms on this floor, Jacob read the key cards.
"Room 12, 7 and 22. Three rooms isn't going to be enough for twenty plus people." Jacob massaged his head as he felt a head coming.
"I found this in the Janitor's Closet." Ryver handed the handsome man a key card. The key card was entirely black with a few stripes on them.
Jacob's eyes lit up. "An all-assess key card. This should be more than enough to accommodate us all. You've helped us greatly." Jacob mentioned his thanks, it was obvious he was relieved. Twenty agitated people sharing three rooms, it was unknown what would happen, but things would surely occur.
They spent the next thirty minutes clearing the rooms on the floor. The zombies within the rooms combined were only ten. Therefore it was very easy to take care of them.
"The floor is clear, you can all come in now." Jacob went to the stairs and muttered to the crowds of people waiting by the stairs and once they heard the good news, they were all relieved.
"The doors are all opened, so you can pick the rooms you want, but leave no space in between the rooms If something is happening we want to know about it. And please, don't lock yourself outside, we have only one key card to open the door, so be careful." Jacob warned loudly.
The crowds were all excited as they rushed in to pick their rooms. Although they are workers within the company, they are still low-level workers and therefore cannot be compared to the high level workers with massive benefits. They even get to own a Luxury accommodation to work and even stay however they wished.
But since the last two days was the weekend, most high-level workers went home to their wives or husbands. It wasn't ideal to stay within the company's accommodation during the weekend.
