Three days later...
It was quite late when she got to the hospital. The tricycle insisted on carrying extra passengers since they could not afford to pay for the vacant seat. When the tricycle stopped in front of the large building, Priyanka paid the driver and helped Krishna down.
She looked at the building with a big signboard written "the Singh Private Hospital." The hospital belonged to the richest family in the country. Zara told her that their first son was ranking the Fourth richest man in the world. But why will someone have so much money why she begged for food to eat? Truly, life was not balanced. Happiness is found in those who were given opportunities to be rich.
She grabbed Krishna's hand. Together, they entered the building. Kamala told them to ask around for directions if they can't get through to doctor Karan.
There were a lot of rich people streaming in and out. Their dress code was quite different from hers. Some of the ladies wore beautiful saris, which were more expensive than the ones, she had at home. Priyanka thanked her stars that she did not wear them as planned.
"Can you show us the way to doctor Karan's office?" She asked one of the women at the counter. She was putting on a plain blue shirt and trousers. Her glasses hung on the edge of her tiny nose.
The woman looked at her from head to toe. Priyanka wondered what it has to do with doctor Karan's office. Wait...was she thinking she has something to do with that monster? God forbid such evil intentions. "Why do you want to see him? Do you have an appointment?
"Yes, I have never been here that's why I asked for directions."
The blonde lady rolled her eyes and said "Doctor Karan is busy. I will call him later."
"I will call him, do not bother," Priyanka told her. There were two empty seats closed by so she sat down with Krishna.
"I think it will be better if we call the doctor" her brother suggested. He was excited to meet with him again. She wondered what spell, he had cast on her family. It was affecting everyone that knows him. First, it was her mother, brother, Zara and now, this woman over the counter. Priyanka looked at the woman again. To her, she was not beautiful if not for the heavy makeup she was wearing.
"Call him please" Krishna insisted. They won't have to wait here if the doctor comes to them.
Priyanka brought out her mom's phone and checked for his number. She was wondering what she saved his contact with when she remembered that he was the last person, they spoke to, before coming to the hospital.
Her brow furrowed in confusion when she saw what his contact info said "The good doctor. Is mother serious?"
She dialed it and placed the phone on her right ear. It rang for some time before a voice came from the other end, calling her mother's name.
"Namaste, Aunt Kamala."
Priyanka chuckled. She would have played the role of Kamala if not for Krish's health. "Namaste Doctor, it's Priyanka speaking."
There was a minute of silence before he spoke. She did not like the way he allowed the airtime to be wasted. Things were hard in the country, even eating was a problem for them.
"Have you come?" Karan asked.
"Yes, sir. The woman at the counter won't allow me in. I don't know the direction to your office."
"I will talk to her."
He hung up on her. She felt like throwing the phone against the wall but she wouldn't dare. This was the only cellphone they had at home.
Priyanka noticed that the woman at the counter was looking at them again. She was on call. A few minutes later, She dropped the telephone and came to them "I will lead the way to the doctor's office."
Priyanka smirked before taking her brother's hand in hers. If only the woman gave them directions, she won't have to stress herself showing them now "come on, Krish. We will have to go and meet with the devil."
The woman turned back and gave a disdainful look, while Krishna was surprised. He asked, "Which devil are we going to meet, sister?"
"The Doctor, of course" she whispered to him while giggling. Krishna did not find it a funny story at all. He wore a frown till they got to the doctor's office.
In the big room of the office was an ergonomic office chair which was positioned close to the window.
In front of his table were two executive black leather chairs. At the left side of his office was an adjourning parlor.
Priyanka's jaw dropped when she saw the heavens that he called an office. Was she dreaming? This was like a living room with a few medical pieces of equipment. 'He should be a rich man' she concluded.
"Isn't it beautiful?" Krishna asked for her opinion.
"No, Krish. The desk does not suit his ugly personality" She whispered to him. He let go of her hand for speaking ill of his favorite doctor.
"Welcome, have a seat" The woman pointed to one of the expensive sofas. She bowed and left the office. Doctor Karan was on call. Three minutes later, he dropped the phone on his desk and turned to them.
"Welcome. How are you today, Krishna?"
"I'm fine doctor," Krishna answered, with his legs dangling. The sofa was huge so his legs did not touch the floor.
"That's good, we will stroll a little before coming back to your sister, is that fine by you?" He asked. Krishna nodded. Karan turned to her "feel free, we will go and run the test."
"Yes sir," Priyanka did not look at him. She was avoiding his eyes ever since she walked into the office. Two days ago, he broke his heart. She was not going to forgive him.
