Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: A Normal Day

'It's red'

The color matching those of a rose.

This was Harris' last thought before his vision went dark.

* * * * *

It was considered to be a normal day just like the all the days that passed since his 18 years of living. He was the very definition of what society deemed as "normal" and "average". Someone who can fit the role of "Villager A" in a high school play perfectly. He also neither excelled academically, physically or any other aspects.

His life is what you may call "uninteresting".

*triiiiing~* *triiiing~*

Harris slowly rolled over to the right side of the bed and reached out to grab his still ringing phone. It was 5 AM in the morning as he turned off his alarm to get ready for the first day of school after summer vacation. He slowly stood up and noticed a glint in the corner of his eyes. He followed the direction of sunlight and noticed a hand mirror lying on the floor beside his bed.

"Did my sisters come to my room?" Harris said slowly as he picked up the intricate looking hand mirror.

'I don't think I've seen such an expensive looking mirror in both of my sister's possession' he thought as he shoved the mirror into his pocket.

"I'll just ask them later as I wake them up from their sleep."

Harris went to the kitchen after brushing his teeth and washing his face. He then proceeded to wash 3 cups rice and place it unto the rice cooker, and cook scrambled eggs enough for 3 growing teens to eat for breakfast. While the rice was still cooking, he ironed their school uniforms and neatly hanged them in a hanger.

'I guess I can wake up the girls' he thought while remembering his 14 year-old sister's devilish grin and his 16 year-old sister's elegant demeanor.

Harris then walked into the front door of the room of his youngest sister Anna. She was what you can call a typical middle school beauty. She was almost excellent in all aspects, not just her looks but also physically and academically.

*Knock* *Knock*

"Anna, wake up and get ready, you're gonna be late in the first day of our new school." Harris shouted as he knocked the door.

Harris waited for 5 seconds to see if she would respond, however all he can hear was the rooster crowing outside. As he opened the door, he saw a girl curled up like a caterpillar with her head hanging unto the side of the bed.

'How is this girl considered a beauty?' he thought as he leaned in closer to the blanket worm.

"Oy Anna" Harris said as he repeatedly slapped both of her cheeks lightly with both hands.

"Ah... what the hell?" Anna glared at Harris with her half-opened eyes before burying her face back into the pillow. Harris thought about kicking her off the bed but decided to just lean over to her face instead.

"Wake up, its morning."

"Ah damn it."

Harris took a closer look at his sleeping sister's face.

'She really does take after mom'. He thought as he poked her forehead with his finger. He couldn't resist the urge because her sister looked very cute.

"Now you're also poking me" said Anna while glaring at her older brother's grinning face.

"Go take a bath and brush your teeth, breakfast will be ready in a minute".

"Yes yes brother~" She responded half-heartedly.

"Oh right, did you go to my room again?"

"Huh, why would I ever visit a demon's lair?" Anna stood up as she said curiously.

"Demon's lair, huh?" Harris' eyes twitched.

*Bleeeghh* Anna stuck her tongue out as she ran off to the bathroom.

Harris decided to let her off for now and continued on into the room of the eldest of his younger sisters, Charlotte.

Unlike Anna, Charlotte is someone whose mental age was already developed to almost of that an adult. She matured early both mentally and physically because our parents are always busy with their work. She was famous at our previous school for having an ethereal feel to her aura. Anna was someone with a cheery and extroverted personality, while, Charlotte was more of a cold, introverted and silent type. He still remember the days where he would become the middleman for her love confessions due to boys being too intimidated to be alone with her.

Before Harris could knock on Charlotte's door, he could hear a clicking sound of the door in front of him.

"Good morning, Brother" Charlotte said with a slight smile over her face.

"Did Anna's rambling wake you up?"

"I was already awake since early in the morning."

"Did you wash up already?" Harris asked as he saw her hair still tied up by a towel.

"Yes, I figured Anna would wake up late so I took the opportunity to wash up early."

"Understandable" Harris said with an agreeing expression.

Harris and Charlotte sat down on the table with food already served while waiting for Anna to finish her bath. He suddenly felt a lump in his pocket as he sat down and remembered he picked up an expensive looking mirror earlier.

"Is this yours?" he asked Charlotte as he took the mirror and handed it to her.

"I've never seen this hand mirror before" she said with an uncertain tone.

"Is this perhaps Anna's?"

"I don't think so, I'm pretty sure Anna show off such a mirror everyday if she ever had one" she said with a joking tone.

"That is very true" said Harris as he laughed lightly.

Harris and Charlotte then both heard a series of footsteps coming in closer from the direction of the bathroom.

"So you guys were the reason why I was getting goosebumps in the shower" Anna said angrily.

"Must be your imagination" Harris said as he looked straight into Anna's eyes.

"Certainly your imagination" Charlotte added.

Then both Harris and Charlotte chuckled while Anna was still standing looking at her older siblings being so eerily coordinated.

"So what did you guys talk about while I was in the shower?" Anna asked with a slightly raised eyebrow.

"I was asking Charlotte if you are the owner of this hand mirror" said Harris as Charlotte handed the mirror to Anna.

"Even if it does indeed suit my tastes, why would I own a broken mirror?" Anna asked with a questioning tone.

""Broken?"" asked both Harris and Charlotte.

"I don't see my reflection when I look at the mirror" Anna said.

"Did holing up in your room everyday since the beginning of summer finally transformed you into a vampire?" Harris said jokingly.

"That is quite the possibility" Charlotte added.

"Pfft... Hahahahaha" Both of them roared with laughter at Anna's angry face.

"Looks like Anna is not lying or I also became a vampire" Charlotte said after taking the mirror from Anna's hands with a light chuckle.

"That is certainly not normal" said Harris.

"Since both of you does not own the mirror and it indeed does look broken, I'll keep it for now." he said as he kept the mirror back to his pocket.

"Now stop talking and go eat your food or else we'll be late at this rate".

"Will do" Charlotte said while Anna just snorted.

"Your uniforms are hanged in the living room, make sure to come to me before going out so I can give you lunch money" reminded Harris.

* * * * *

Last year before summer began, the three of them received a package containing three transferee applications approved with their names on it along with a new house to stay and a notice of eviction in their previous apartment. Their supposed new school is called Central Metropolitan High school and is located 5 streets away from their new home. The school was supposedly created to simulate an environment where only students from influential backgrounds around the country can learn and compete with each other. Harris and his sisters didn't come from extravagant families, yet their parents somehow managed to transfer the three of them to this school.

In the Federation, the whole world is divided into 18 different countries which are coined by the term "Areas". The Areas are ordered according to their overall military prowess and influence. The house that their parents moved them into consisted of 2 stories having a living room, kitchen, bedspace and other rooms. This house was located in the upper class district of city 2 of Area 11. This certainly gave a surprise to the three siblings as starting from their birth until now, they had always lived in an apartment complex. They took quite a while to adjust themselves to the new environment and neighborhood.

Although Harris has his suspicions, he never had the chance to meet his parents since he entered his previous school as a freshman. From that point on, the three siblings had to rely on each other to make it through their middle school and high school years.

Although their parents sent them a certain amount for monthly allowance, it was just the right amount. There would be a hefty amount left even if they spent it on everything they would need for the month. There was this one time where Anna became very sick and they had to spend a few more money to buy her some medicine. An envelope arrived the next day containing the exact amount of money we had to spend during Anna's visit to the hospital. So he suspected that their parents must be watching over them. That is why he never had the feeling that their parents abandoned them even after not seeing them for 2 years.

As they were walking to school, Harris suddenly realized that they are going to attend a class at a high class school built for influential people.

'I hope our new school won't be full of stuck-ups'.

'Although I'm willing to bet that these two would still become a hot topic among the teenage boys' he thought as he was walking behind his two sisters.

Suddenly Harris felt something vibrating in his bag.

'I don't remember bringing something that can vibrate' he thought as he was reaching out to the source of vibration.

Harris remembered the only unfamiliar thing he placed in his bag was the hand mirror he picked up earlier this morning. He then confirmed that it was indeed the mirror that was vibrating, so he decided to pick it up to see how it was doing that.

However as he was trying to pick up the mirror, he could hear the noise of tires screeching, slowly becoming louder as he closed his eyes. The next thing he could see after opening them was the beautiful sunrise that he often saw walking to school, dyed a beautiful red.

'Its red'

The color matching those of a rose.

This was Harris' last thought before his vision went dark.
