Chapter 1 - It was at this Internet Cafe, where I met him.

Well, let's look at the time. 3 am? Not bad.

It looks like I have been up for 36 hours, but what can I say? I had to theorycraft this one tactic, which looks like it will come in handy later.

The person on my left was really loud,

"F*ck, this bastard stole my kill AGAIN. Ungrateful little bastard, let me show you who your daddy is!"

What the hell is going on right now?

Suddenly, his mouse aiming become erratic and he smacked his elbow against the drink that I had placed.

"Oh! Shoot. Spilled your energy drink..."

Not again.

I sighed and just waved it off, "Yeah, yeah no worries. It was almost empty anyway. I can use this chance to get up and get another."

Despite the intensity of the game he was in, he turned aside for a second and looked at me directly in the eyes.

"Hey, don't you look familiar...?"

I darted my eyes away, "Really? Never seen you before in my life."

"Oh... Okay then."

He carried on with his game.

The guy I was looking at was really focused, with his long brown wavy hair and red leather coat I almost mistook him for a thug on the street.

"Hey guy, watch this!" He declaratively said.

I peeked at his screen.

Aha! He's playing Iridescence too! I beamed.

Iridescence-- a 4v4 team fight in which players are able to use the surroundings and our abilities to murder the enemy team and come away with a victory.

However, in contrast to traditional games we are introduced to a system called Iridescence. During a set interval of 5 minutes apart, the game players will have access to two different buffs, yin and yang. Yin, or the black buff allows you to reduce the cooldowns of all of your moves by 20% for the next 60 seconds, while Yang, the white buff creates a mist around the enemy reducing their vision by 40% for the next 90 seconds.

He was playing as an Attacker. I saw him unleashing his might upon the white dragon.

I frowned.

Both buffs are crucial and can lead a team to victory during the right game-state, but they require your team to synergize together in order to use them effectively, otherwise it's a waste.

His team, the red team was currently without him in a 3v4 in which his teammates had hopelessly forced a fight after seeing their lead in lives. They had a remaining 7 to the opponents 4.

Each team has a total of 3 lives each between the four players, so it can be worth it to die for a buff in the right circumstance.

Oh... but this guy..

I paused.

"They are all just wasting the buffs..." I thought to myself.

Suddenly, his three teammates were helplessly killed as the lives had now equalized to 1 each.

The opposing blue team had all of the momentum from that group fight and had barely lost any health, additionally kills gave players a glimmering effect, which allowed them to grow stronger.

After his game finished, he grinned and looked at me.

"Well? What do you think?"

I paused, and responded in a modest tone, "Pretty good, but you might need another energy drink with how you almost lost that last team fight."

He turned absolutely beet red with that comment,

"I JUST. MISCLICKED. OKAY."

Heh. The classic. I looked at his features a little more closely, he looked like a high schooler just like me, but his eyes demanded respect... I knew just how to press his buttons.

"Yeah let me just use my ultimate ability that charges once a game on that tiny little rock! Make sure it doesn't kill you! And look at that battered personal mouse of yours... Maybe had a few too many misclicks, I pity your poor mouse!" I sarcastically remarked.

He rolled his eyes.

"AHH, SCREW you you son of a bitch-- IT WAS A HONEST MISCLICK."

...

"Whatever you say!"

He still looked pretty happy after the overall outcome of the game, and I couldn't blame him. His team wasn't doing him any favors.

"You did do pretty well though, aside from that... special play."

He just wanted to move on from the fabled misclick.

He looked up at me, "Oh Hey! Speaking of energy drinks let me get you one."

"Ah, thank y-"

He had already disappeared by then.

I chuckled a little and decided to load up a competitive match.

Roles:

Defender, Specialist, Attacker, Support

"Hmm.. what to play today?"

Ah, let's just close my eyes and pick.

"Role selected." My computer screeched with a robotic voice.

Suddenly, within 3 seconds of queuing a game was already found. Can't underestimate the queue times of a god game like this.

Map Selection:

Nirvana

I looked around to my left and right. Ah, this map.

The heavenly sand beneath us increased our movement speed by 5%. The lake in the outer rings is where the buffs will spawn.

We have a limited vision upon spawning in and can only see structures nearby with our field of view.

I was the heroic tank Arkavis, a tank that boasted brass knuckles and a pulling skill.

I glanced at our team composition and saw that 1 of our players had already disconnected. And to make matters worse, the other 2 players had just finished the tutorial.

But this didn't faze me at all. Matter of fact, this situation caused me to yawn.

After all, in Iridescence... I was the best beta player in NA West.

Only four minutes had passed since I had loaded the game up. A buff hadn't even spawned in yet since enough time hadn't passed.

"Victory!" My screen brightened up.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of a gasp behind me.

The guy from earlier had a new energy drink, but how long had he been there?

"Did you... just get 11 kills as a defender?!"

I grabbed the bottle from his frozen hand,

and smiled.

"Hmm, maybe the enemy team.. just had a few too many misclicks?"
