"Is that your final decision?" Amari asked, "Yes..." the old hag responded, ".....Very well" Amari nodded her head and Our magicians started the ritual. They cut their wrists and spilled it onto the Eye of Mani. They then spoke in the old tongue, their words felt almost alien to me, yet..... something inside me stirred with every word that left their lips, the rebirth ritual had began.
50 humans stepped forward, it seems they were the only ones willing to receive our gift, the others..... They Feared us too much, hated us too much, I couldn't blame them really, their family, friends, loved ones all perished at our hands, their city in ruins thanks to us, the only thing they can do to us really is this last act of defiance..... a futile and meaningless endeavor but one I'll acknowledge nonetheless.
The Magicians finished their chants, the pale light from the moon and The eye of Mani shone over the 50 humans, they screamed! snouts shot forward, their ears melted into their skin but new ones grew on top their heads, the limbs broke and reconstructed themselves, tails emerged from their spines and they went on all fours covered in dark misty fur.
They howled in unison when the transformation was complete, One by one they went to some of our Kin, it seems they choose their masters, one of them approached me and bent it's head, I recognized it's smell, "What is your name, old woman?" I asked, "...Ekaterina master," she responded. "Serve me well, Ekaterina," I commanded, "Yes master!" she yelled.
"Now..... for your first show of loyalty..... Slaughter the remaining fodder!" I ordered, She whirled around and lept towards the remaining humans.
The humans howled and screamed in agony, some of them cursed us in their dying moments, others begged for their lives, Ultimately none were spared, the legacy of Bluehaven had been snuffed out with this final act.
I ordered my kin who weren't injured or tired to search the city for any potential survivours, you never know, the victory was decisive but I'd rather no- "Barker!" Elder Michala cried.
"Yes Elder Michala!" I said jogging over to her, she studied me with her old tired eyes before breaking out a grin, "I'm proud of you child, I never thought the day would come when we'd finally bite Back at the pale ones," she said.... Aye, I can only imagine how she feels, seen so many generations of our kind come and go, all her friends are gone yet she's here, she's here to witness this new age, I hope she lives long enough to see it to it's end, I always liked her best after all... she was the first of them to accept me, when mother introduced us to the city.
"Thank you..... Elder Michala, your words are too, but it was a collective effort after all," I replied, "Aye it was..... still child, your efforts are part of the reason we got here, we all owe you a great deal of appreciation, if you need any help in running things, do not be shy to come to me, I may not be a spring chicken, but this old gal still has a lot left in her, hah!" she spoke.
"Of course!" I bellowed, we both chuckled a bit before she made her leave, "Oh and Amari wants to see you, On top the wall on the west gate!" With that she left.
