My stomach growled, "Damn it! Maxie! Hurry up! We're already late!" I hollered, They're finally gonna give their decision tonight! No more beating around the bush!
"I'm coming, I'm coming! just need to one more shake!" he yelled back, I told him not to drink too much beer, We're gonna get some at the hall anyways, besides "You're the one that was eafer about this! We're gonna get our approval tonight!" I bellowed.
"Calm down brother," he replied. He's stepping out, thank the alpha, he's done now. His long white hair first greeted me, before our eyes met, the golden and purple orbs made him resemble a wicked trickster, his mismatched clothes didn't do him any favours either, seriously, who wears animal prints with stripes? Ugh.
CRUNCH
"we don't know what they're gonna say, no need rush ourselves," he continued, stepping over a passing bug, it gave a nasty smell when he crushed it, must be a stink beetle or something.
He frowned, I knew he'd suggest washing the smell off, so before he said anything I grabbed his arm and dashed out! "W-wait!" he cried trying to protest, I wasn't hearing it! we need to get the hall now! we raced passed the bushes and trees and stepped into the glowing yellow light.
In the next moment we found ourselves within the secret city. It was a safe haven for us Werewolves, the humans had hunted our kind to near extinction, luckily with the aid of the old ones, the first Alphas, we built this city, out of Moonstone and Brilliant light.
The Light cannot be seen by humans, thus we need not fear it's discovery by them. Maxie and I made our way through the wandering crowd, it was almost 8 o'clock, time for mass supper and as well "Time for our answers," I muttered.
The streets here were too narrow and small, the secret was ment to be used for only 3 generations after its birth, as a result some of the lower born citizens like Maxie and I are forced to live in the cave systems nearby.... Hopefully if our proposal is heard, we need live like common beasts any longer.
My eyes wandered the surroundings, the majestic houses, the intricate carvings of the wooden doors, my favourite part of the weekly feast was the glory of witnessing this beautiful city. I need them to accept my proposal, we need them to. "Barker," Maxie whispered, "Do you have it on you?" he asked.
I smirked at him and tapped my pocket, I wondered why he asked, with my tight leather pants it was obvious I had it on me..... The tool to our kinds' salvation, our payback to the Filthy humans, and Mother's last gift to us.
Finally after the sluggish trek we made it to the hall, the great oak doors stood tall and proud, it's presence always reassured me. Of all the protective wards cast around the secret city, it had the most powerful, should the unlikely event of a siege took place, we'd take refuge within it's walls.
We entered, the place was a wonder, everything in here, from the furniture to the cutlery were made of the bones of powerful beasts felled by previous Alphas, the walls and floor were pure white Moonstone to symbolise this as a holy place, Violence was forbidden in the room. The complete lack of shade in the room was.... eerie at times but you'd get used to it, it wasn't a big deal.
"Children of the Great Alpha Fenris, please settle down!" A raspy old voice said, Elder Michala, she was the former Alpha of the previous generation, she stepped down due to old age, however her wisdom is invaluable to us, five and Eighty, she's still agile and sharp of mind despite the wrinkles and walking cane may suggest.
"The feast will begin soon!" she cried, I wish she was still in charge, from the rumours, she was quite the dreamer during her time, if that is true, one look at my gift and she'll immediately accept my proposal.... however, she's a mere advisor now... I'll need to convince- "Settle down now!" a sharp voice barked, it was This generation's Alpha, Amari, she was huge... I'm talking 7 foot huge... thick arms, thick legs, thick chest, she looked like she was carved of stone!
Her Blood red eyes and long rough blonde hair gave her mean, cruel visage, despite her stunning looks, a strong contrast to Elder Michala and her soft orange eyes, she had an approachable presence to her, I wish I had to deal with her instead. I sigh and wait for our meal to be served, it was corn bread, stir fried vegetables and roasted Boar with Black beer, guess there wasn't much game this week, third time in a row we had Boar, we need to make some changes Damn it!
I curse in my mind as I dig into the Boar, "Oh, you guys are wearing the same outfit this week again, that's 6 times now," Maxie whispered, It's true, Amari was wearing a simple white cotton blouse with Black leather pants and Brown fur boots, it's ridiculous that we have the same taste in outfits despite not having anything in common, it's funny be- oh no.....
She's staring at me now, she's looking right at me, does she know I want to try something? as if reading my mind she says the word "DON'T" in a muted tone..... I look over to Elder Michala with pleading eyes, she stares right back at me, She nods her head and clears her throat to gather the halls attention, I knew why I liked her! she's really good at helping out in this sort of situation!
"Everyone please be silent! Young Barker wishes to speak!" Elder Michala announced, the hall gradually grew quiet, until it was completely silent.... I was nervous now, I closed my eyes and imagined mother.... her dark long hair and dark skin so much like mine, the scent of pine trees, her natural smells and must importantly, those emerald green eyes, my eyes.
"People of the Secret city! My name is Barker, son of Amanda the Toothless.... The wandering saint of lost souls!" I cried, the hall had a few chatters here and there, some looks of pity, others disdain but no one interrupted me, so far so good, "I come asking you this.... are you satisfied with our way of life now? Are satisfied with the meager scraps we have to put in our belly?"
"Meagar? You ungrateful bastard! do you know how hard it was for us to get game this week!?" Dorian the lead hunter shouted, it's not wise to anger him but I've got no choice, "Yes it is Meagar! Do you see the way those humans from Bluehaven feast! do you see their vigour!? the splendor of their homes!? it makes even the houses here pale in value, open your eyes people we need to make changes!"
"Do you think we don't know that!? What's a low born brat like you know about what it takes to better our living?" another voice shouted in protest, it was Crow the head carpenter, more voices followed in protest, I couldn't get a proper word in, "Silence! let us hear the boy out," Elder Michala commanded, the voices quieted after that.
"..... For our people to survive, for us to thrive, we need to take it back..." I said, "Take what back?" Amari asked, with a cool expression on her face, "Our dignity from the humans! This was once our land! A land where our ancestors could build, hunt and create to our hearts content, A land where we were the top of the food chain! A land where we were Feared AND Respected! we need to take it all back!" I cried, many voices chattered, some agreed with me, others called me a fool, all the While Amari and Elder Michala simply stared.
"You know what you're asking for boy? This would mean war, a war we cannot possibly win, we're outnumbered and outpowered, they have silver and wolf's bane and the protection of the sun god, it would be a hopeless endeavour," Elder Michala said.
"Yes.... luckily we have this with us!" I shouted, producing an orb from my pocket, it was the eye of Mani, our last salvation!
