As I got out of the rubble, my entire body ached with pain. Nothing had broken, but it certainly injured me enough that I was out for the count. However, as I stood up to see if Reia was okay, I was met with quite a gruesome scene.
Wakano was completely mutilated and in the jaws of a large fox mutant. I instantly knew it was Reia, as it was the same distinctive purple essence that surrounded the mutant's body.
"Reia?" I wasn't sure if I was signing a death wish or not, but I called out to her in hopes that she was still there.
"Hrrrrgh" As I called out her name, Reia turned, Wakano still hanging from her jaw. It wasn't a look of recognition, but a look of a new prey. I was in no condition to fight, but I still lifted my two swords off the ground. I couldn't predict what this mutant Reia was going to do, and I hoped it could be reversed.
One scare was already enough. I didn't want to do another extremely precise treatment again.
