Lady Gisella walked into her room.
She sat in the front of the window as she looked outside. Her eyes stayed in the garden where she had sat a while ago.
"What do you think about Duke Felix's words?" Lady Gisella asked as her eyes shivered. She did not know what to say at that time. There was a little uneasiness. "We have never heard anything like this. If it is known outside in the Empire that a man is writing letters to the Princess who is a Crown Princess's candidate it will be scandalous."
"I don't think that it is for Princess Eleanor from Princess Macy." Sir Kit said with a smile. He moved towards the window as well. His eyes narrowed as he looked at Lady. "I hope the Lady has already guessed it."
Lady Gisella moved her hand over her forehead. "So you suggest that Duke Felix wants to communicate with Princess Eleanor under the disguise of his fiancee?"
Sir Kit did not reply but his gaze stayed on the seat in the garden. Their breakfast had long been finished and everyone had left but Princess Eleanor and her lady in waiting stayed.
Sir Kit could still see the Princess talking with the lady in waiting. He could not hear what they were talking about but he knew that the Princess was angry. There was something that she did not like.
"Is there something going on between those two?" Lady Gisella asked as she rubbed her chin. "That makes sense. I have to find it out before we leave for the Empire."
"What if you find something?" Sir Kit said in a low tone, "There is no other Princess in the Angevin Kingdom. What is the Lady thinking to do then? Go back without the Princess?"
"No." Lady Gisella's gaze sharpened as she observed the Princess move. Lady Gisella knew that she was here on a mission and she needed to complete it at any cost. There was no backout anymore. "The Emperor and the Crown Prince will be angry. We have to make sure that we take the Princess back if we want to live."
Sir Kit took a breath as his lips curled up, "So what difference will it make? What will happen if the Lady finds out about the relationship between the Princess and her brother-in-law?"
"I cannot do anything. But the order has to be followed. The only thing that I fear is that the Princess will say no to entering the Empire if she has some unspeakable relationship with Duke Felix. And even if she does come because of the order by the King she will be unwilling and we cannot take that risk."
"True. The risk cannot be taken." Sir Kit said under his breath.
He walked away from the window as he sat on the chair. He had seen the small interaction between Princess Eleanor and her lady in waiting during the talk in the morning. There was some unsaid interaction between them.
"If the Princess has some condition to enter the Empire by her own will then should it be considered?" Sir Kit asked as she looked at Lady Gisella. He could see her still looking out in deep thought but as soon as he said those words the old lady turned around and she nodded her head.
"It was strictly instructed to follow any demands put forward by the Princess." Lady Gisella said. "Apart from the fact that they can go back to their kingdom if they are not selected, everything will have to be followed."
Sir Kit looked at Lady Gisella. Although he still had his mask on, Lady Gisella could tell that his gaze was filled with questions. How could she not tell when she had been with the man since his childhood.
"There are some questions?" Lady Gisella asked as she raised her eyebrows.
Sir Kit smiled as he nodded her head. "I could not know why the Princess cannot come back but you are different my Lady. I know that you have the answer to this question. Your information network is strong enough to know what the Emperor discussed in his closed bedroom. I hope the Lady could answer me honestly."
Lady Gisella's eyes shook but she maintained her dignity. It was true that she knew the real reason but whether to say it or not was a different story. But she knew that she could not hide it forever. If the man wants then he would know it.
"The reason is the prophecy." Lady Gisella said. She walked away from the window as he sat on the chair in front of Sir Kit. "The prophecy talks about the lady but does not specify the criteria to identify her."
"So they decided to keep them in the Empire?" Sir Kit asked as he saw Lady Gisella nod.
"Yes, even if they chose a princess and if she is not the one they want to move on to the next. For that reason they want all the Princesses to stay in the Empire."
"But…" Sir Kit wanted to ask more but Lady Gisella shook her head indicating for him to stop. She had more to add.
"I know what you want to know, but the truth is Priest Erasmus is waiting for the next prophecy. The one that will clarify things. He believes that once the chosen one enters the Empire, he would be able to hear God's voice again."
Sir Kit did not say anything. The influence that the temple had on the Empire was huge. And Priest Erasmus was a reputed priest. The messenger of God. His words held great importance in the Empire so opposing him or his words was out of the question.
Sir Kit now understood why the Imperial family was desperate to keep the Princesses in the Empire. They needed them to come there and stay till the time a new prophecy was bestowed.
"Lady Gisella should not think about Princess Eleanor and Duke Felix any more. I will get the information soon. And the Lady also does not have to worry about her duties. I will make sure that Princess Eleanor comes to the Empire of her own free will."
