Chapter 35 - The Past's Flashbacks

Avyanna sat down on a bench by the garden of the resort as she looked around observing the area. It's spacious and indeed is charming, she wouldn't wonder why it would still be as lively as ever.

But as she sat peacefully, feeling the breeze of the wind caress her skin, a certain woman approached her.

It was Sunny Athanasiou whose expression can never be drawn as it scowled. She flashed her phone screen to her and said, "You dare now ignore me?"

Avyanna stood up and spoke, "Apologies if it seemed rude to you that I ignored you, all I wanted was to stop the discussion." she meekly mouthed the words that irked Sunny more.

"And you thought I'll never find you wherever you are hiding? You must be happy now having all these possessions after marrying a rich businessman that you've become so arrogant!" she yelled.

Slowly, Sunny's expression changed sadly, her eyes glimmered as tears slowly collided with her eyelids. She began wiping the forming tears with her fingers, slowly, one plunge plummeted down her cheeks as she looked at Avyanna with despair in her eyes.

Her voice cracked as she spoke, "Oh…where's the Avyanna that I knew? The best friend that I cared for."

Avyanna looked at her as she scowled, deeply inside her, Avyanna knew that she was feigning it like it used to back then.

Sunny stared at her eyes as the memories of the past started to form in the back of her mind and made her remember.

"Hey, Avie!" Sunny exclaimed.

She was wearing a long-sleeved blouse and a school skirt. Her necktie was loose and her fingers had rings on each. Black high socks and a necklace laced on her neck as her face is covered with makeup.

She looked at Avyanna as she poked her, Avyanna who was younger back then in that memory was hiding her face. She was resting her hands on the table as her face was covered completely. "What's wrong?" she asked.

Avyanna did not speak nor did she move, she was silent. Her silence was so off that Sunny had just needed to force her to show her wretched face. It was a mess. Tears had dried down yet there was more falling down her cheeks.

Her eyes despair. Yet her cries were silent.

"W-What happened? What's wrong? What did you do?" Sunny immediately reacted?

Avyanna shook her head as she hid her face once more behind her hair. "I-It's nothing, I-I've just watched a drama, that's all." she reasoned.

"Watch a drama? What drama is it?" she excitedly spoke as her expression swiftly changed.

Avyanna's expression saddened as she breathed in and out. She touched up and forcibly smiled as she spoke, "Cast Wisteria."

"Oh, lend me it, would you? I wanna watch it too!" Sunny brightened.

"Sure…" Avyanna said as she awkwardly gave that beam.

"Then, nice, now enough talk about dramas, let's go to the cafeteria!" She raised her hand pointing toward the ceiling and raised her foot, resting the soles of her shoes on a chair.

She turned to her and narrowed the distance between their faces, her eyes widened with excitement as she spoke. "It's your treat, right?"

"Eh? But wasn't it my treat yesterday too?"

"Oh, come on, it's just this once!"

Avyanna sighed and smiled, "Fine." She stood up from the chair and followed close behind Sunny.

The days passed as this continued, and Sunny continued to take advantage of Avyanna using the 'friendship' that they had.

Later on a rainy day, Avyanna wasn't able to reach their driver's phone to pick her up as the school hours had ended, she got herself stranded at school among the other students.

Slowly, someone approached her from behind as she was standing face forward to the gate as she waited.

"Hey, Avie…" said the voice in a friendly manner.

Avyanna turned around as she saw a senior standing in front of her as the senior snickered at her. "May I ask for your help?"

Avyanna wondered what her help was needed for, she nodded her head as she confirmed to agree and followed them. The seniors chatted as they walked toward an empty room.

"Here we are…"

A girl with a neatly trimmed bang pushed the door open, they went inside as Avyanna slowly and cautiously followed. It was a room filled with dust and cobwebs, a table in the middle, windows sealed with wood nailed to it, and a closet with old, dusty books.

"We wanted you to lend us a hand cleaning this room, it is for the new club that is yet to be approved, is it alright to bother you?" a senior came forward and said.

Avyanna looked around, indeed it was a mess but as they asked, Avyanna nodded her head and agreed. The seniors snickered at each other as they looked at her with smiles that were not genuine.

"Then, we're glad!" one exclaimed.

"The cleaning supplies are there." one pointed to the direction behind the door. Avyanna looked and turned to face it.

Slowly, she footed towards it, the seniors looked at her and spoke, "Mind if we leave for a while? We might need more people to volunteer."

Avyanna doubted, but if so, she just nodded silently once again as they closed the door and left. Avyanna started to wipe the dirty areas, brush the cobwebs away and made sure it was neat.

But now that she wondered, after an hour, the seniors have not yet returned. She was feeling her heart throb with nervousness but she calmed herself before that.

The seniors stood in the open of the sports area as they smoked and laughed together. They were giggling with no care in the world as they held cans of beer in each of their hands.

"That girl was quite gullible and weak, you could take advantage of her anytime." they laughed along after those words were spoken by another.

They pulled their beer close to their mouths as they simultaneously drank the canned beers together.

Avyanna as she finished wiped her sweat as she placed the cleaning supplies back properly to where they belonged, she reached for the knob and as she tried to twist it, it wouldn't budge. As she thought it was just her slippery hands, she wiped them on her skirt and attempted once more. On how many tries she did, it didn't do anything.

Only then did she conclude that she was locked inside.
