Slam!
Lena snapped the book she was holding shut, she ran her fingers through her curly strands and sighed loudly. The beeping sound of her phone caught her attention and she picked the phone up. It was a message from May.
[Girl, I am sure I heard a man's voice over your phone that time. Who the hell is he? No, don't tell me now. Just come back to school and let's have a nice chat!] The message was closed with a silly face emoji making Lena groan.
School.
She wanted to go back too... But now that she found herself in this trap in the name of a marriage, how is that going to be possible. The rumors about the man were nothing new to her. Who did not know in the entire city that the man lived over a decade in the castle without stepping out once? No wonder everyone thought he was a monster who lived in the castle alone. She also never thought that be would be a man, a good-looking man at that. Now that she was married to him, does the same rule not apply to her too that she had to spend the rest of her life in the castle, not stepping out once? She did not want this kind of life but she could no longer run— not after what happened...
Her phone vibrated again, she picked it up and saw it was another message from May.
[You ain't answering me now, but it is fine. All I know is that you have to appear at school tomorrow, else—] A knife, gun, and coffin emojis followed. Her best friend's threat was never an empty one...
Lena could not give response to any of May's messages, she then tossed her phone aside and did the same to the novel. She already spent the rest of her day reading. It was something she always did to keep herself busy when she was at her aunt and uncle's house. If she was locked up in her room all day, she had no choice but to read novels to stall time and keep her mind away from the outside world. She wouldn't even feel hunger when she repeatedly stuff her stomach with the handsomeness of the male lead in her books.
She looked out of the French window and saw that the sky had darkened slightly, it was not unexpected as she has read almost two hundred chapters in a single afternoon. Her stomach growled in protest, she had not had anything aside from the breakfast she ate with the man.
That is right, where was he? She had not seen him since he left in the afternoon. She almost could not believe that he had not come to tease her at all.
"Hmph! Whoever cares about where he is!" She snorted. Thinking of his obsessive good-looking face and his seductive smile— Argh! She had put a lot of effort into forgetting about him for a while. Who asked her to think of him now? Just then, a knock was heard on the door.
"Come in," Lena uttered. She knew the one who was coming in was not the man, he would not even bother to knock if it were to be him. He has terrible manners, she thought.
"Madam," A young lady bowed, she had a special red-colored air that was swept up in a ponytail style. "Dinner is set, you should come down to eat now" the maid voiced.
Ah, dinner... finally! She thought she would starve to death already. "Okay, thank you" Lena stood up and followed the maid out of the room. They walked down the stairs and came to the dining table which was already set with all kinds of dishes. It was set in its usual grand style as though there was a feast.
Lena sighed, she loved good food but she feared that she would become a well-fed idiot if this goes on. Nonetheless, she sat down alone and picked at cutlery to eat. After eating a few spoonfuls from each dish, she dropped her fork and cupped her face. She suddenly lost appetite. She wanted to go back to school but how would that happen if she ended up being trapped in the castle with the man forever? Hmph, so annoying!
"Madam, is everything alright? Is the food not to your liking this time? You, you— take this away, and prepare a better meal for Madam this instant—!" Butler Luther barked a series of commands immediately.
"No, no... it is fine— I am just— never mind, where is your boss?" Lena waved her hand dismissively. She faced the butler and forced a small smile as she spoke to him.
"Ah, Madam... the boss went out in a bit, he should be back soon. Please, wait for him" Butler Luther said.
"Really, isn't he supposed to be locked up in here? So he goes out after all..." she mumbled underneath her breath with a roll of her eyes.
"Fine then, I will go back to rest now" Lena voiced and stood up from the chair.
"Madam, is this alright? I will be killed if Master found out you have not had anything after you are breakfast! Please, complain if there is anything wrong!" Butler Luther stood in front of Lena with a bow, not letting her leave. His master had specifically ordered him to make sure the madam put on extra flesh in all areas before the next month. How would he be able to do that if the Madam refuses to eat?!
"Oh, I can complain about anything?" Lena looked at the indignant Butler and her brows shot up, a slight smirk appeared at the edge of her mouth making her look sly. She folded her arms across her chest and her green orbs twinkled with amusement.
"Yes, Yes... Madam, please complain and that thing would be taken care of immediately!" Butler Luther assured arrogantly. He had to help his master look good before the Madam, only then can they have a good relationship. Since talking to the master would not work, maybe it would be better to talk to madam... The butler thought.
"Great. Actually, the problem is..." Lena blinked innocently and her green orbs watered slightly appearing like a pitiful maiden. The middle-aged butler's attention piqued and he felt remorseful for his Madam. She must have suffered a lot...
"Your Master! Can he be taken care of immediately?" Lena completed her speech and looked at Butler Luther seriously.
Butler Luther was taken aback, his Master was the problem madam wanted him to take care of? His scalp itched and he wanted to squeeze out a few drops of tears from his wrinkled eyes.
"Madam, I..." I don't have a death wish. The Butler Luther looked pitiful now.
"You can't do that for your mistress? Too bad. Step aside Butler Luther, I need to rest early" Lena smiled and walked away, the butler could no longer stop her.
Madam, why do you have to be difficult too! Butler Luther cried in his heart as he watched his female boss march away.
