Chapter 46 - 45- Formations

-

-

Adel was genuinely surprised as the number of white karmic stars on his chest continued to increase...

But then he became baffled as half of those white karmic stars vanished.

Before he could react, he noticed a large amount of information transfer from Falco's mind to his, further bewildering him.

-

A large amount of data was being transmitted to his mind...

Formations were used in a single location, similar to how sects use them to defend themselves against one another.

Arrays, on the other hand, are used whenever a user requires them.

What the two have in common is that they both use inscriptions.

Formations are similar to traps in that they must be stepped on before they activate.

They are made up of shapes and patterns that are meant to accumulate, connect, or channel one of the three energies, and they are frequently inscribed onto materials made of precious composites for offense or defense purposes, or formed with flags or markers of some kind.

The smallest formations could be as minimal as a small room, and the largest could be as big as a continent, with inscriptions inside to accomplish the purposes of the said formations.

In terms of difficulty, they are fairly similar to Earth's automation and artificial intelligence.

There are two kinds of formations: battle formations and spell formations.

Battle formations are categorized into two types:

Killing formations that use killing inscriptions to kill enemies the instant they set foot on the formations, as well as imprisoning formations that trap enemies within the formations by using detainment inscriptions once the formations are stepped on.

And spell formations, too, are classified into two categories:

Protective formations are constituted by constructing protection inscriptions. They differ from the other two types as they both require the person to step into them, which allows for the possibility of someone being able to break out.

The protective formation, on the other hand, was designed to keep all enemies at bay. And all of the array formation's primary mechanisms were contained within. When one used protective inscriptions to form a protective formation, wanting to set foot inside was easier said than done.

The second type is illusionary formations, which make it impossible to tell whether one is in the real world or an illusionary one.

Many other types of formations were flowing directly through his head. But only vague information about them came, as it wasn't too much...

-

Adel became dizzy as a result of the accumulation of information that was suddenly crammed into his head...

He frowned, thinking he'd just accumulated enough karmic stars to face the next calamity, but half of them had already been consumed in this manner?

But he was puzzled. How did Falco know so much about formations?

That ought not to be the case. With his current strength, he should at most be a 3-star formation master, right?

On this plane, formation masters were ranked similarly to alchemists, ranging from 1-star formation masters to 4-star formation masters.

Hence, he frowned because the knowledge he had gained was many times greater than that of the 4-star formation masters!

The heck? Fiend cultivators were most concerned with their strength, so how could they have so much knowledge of formations?

Based on his earlier battle with Adel, Falco seemed to be a novice fiend cultivator compared to the other fiend cultivators.

He lacked battle experience because he only fought those of equal strength to him, those at the same stage as him.

That being said, fiend cultivators were known to fight those who were higher in their stages, so how could the righteous cultivators pursuing him provide him with any battle experience?

Falco was simply bullying the weak when fighting them. He used his soul cultivation to gain enough perception to keep him from dying after fainting earlier from Adel's soul attack.

Then again, if it hadn't been for the might of his cultivation technique, he wouldn't have been able to resist Adel's Tier 4 spell and would have died on the spot!

-

Adel found the answer to this question as soon as he entered his mind-door...

According to the knowledge he got, Falco was a 3-star formation master, so his knowledge was restricted to that. However, it seemed to be that he consumed an additional number of white karmic stars in order to reach the knowledge level of a 6-star formation master.

It seemed that the requirements for unlocking a door in his mind space were for him to have a sufficient number of white karmic stars and to find a proper cultivator with sufficient knowledge of the said profession.

This makes almost everything clear! He was able to unlock that alchemy door in his mind space because he already had enough knowledge about alchemy, had reached the level of a 6-star alchemist in his previous body, and he also had accumulated a large number of white karmic stars due to the numerous good deeds he'd done!

It also explains why, despite having a large number of karmic stars from his previous body, he had very few fortunate incidents.

He had previously assumed that he had many more white karmic stars, but now he understands why he was left with such a small number of white karmic stars after his transmigration!

With this, he could indeed become a jack-of-all-trades, or rather a "master tinkerer"!

But thinking about it was easier than doing it...

It meant that he had to pay a ridiculous number of white karmic stars and also kill people who knew about the professions he wished to learn.

Furthermore, killing people with knowledge of the professions he needed would have the opposite effect of what he desired, as it would award him a large number of dark karmic stars for killing innocents instead...

It could be said that his coming here was a fruitful encounter on its own. He would not have received such a large number of white karmic stars nor know how the mind-door worked if he had not met Falco by chance...

Then again, it was the law of equivalent exchange—Adel nodded as he continued on his journey to the beast's clan...
