Indra never planned on attacking as he swung his blade. Such a blatant attempt would surely be blocked easily and would thus be a waste of energy.
The only way they would be able to hit out at these posers that had come in groups would be to first break up their defense before proceeding to hit them where it hurts.
They had to break up their formation to have any chance of winning, thus he opted for a subtle means.
To enrage the other party to attack, was simple and straight forward but of course, it was also easy to see through such a strategy, especially if the person being attacked was smart enough to see through it.
