Chapter 18 - An Offer

The engulfing darkness highlighted the slightly accelerated breaths of Nathaniel and Connor. "Of all the places I expected you to hide. A university wasn't one of them" From the shadows Conrad declared.

Nathaniel scoffed as his eyes turned a hue of sapphire, "I am surprised you know what an university is given you have been dead for over a century" he mocked as well.

"Well, as you can see…I have been busy catching up" Conrad mumbled while emerging from the shadows, finally visible to Connor as well. "I have missed those glowing eyes of yours," he added. Connor took a moment to glance at those eyes, and indeed it was glowing. He wondered momentarily if that was something any Vampire can do or was it specific to Nathaniel.

What Connor also wondered was how come this person was in front of them if Nathaniel claimed that he died over a century ago? Were they dealing with a ghost? Connor's head was this close to hurting. All he knew about were Vampires and werewolves, and a little bit about the witches.

"What do you want from me?" Nathaniel cut to the chase. "You want to try and kill me?"

"I wouldn't be standing here for that now wouldn't I?" Conrad scoffed. "I'd be looking for…" he trailed off with a smirk. Nathaniel's hand tightened in a fist. Telling Conrad his secret on how to kill him was one of his biggest regrets. The only consolation he had was that he hadn't told Conrad the whole truth, but still, it was a lot. "Look at you, all scared," he mocked.

"Is that why you are here? To mock me?" Nathaniel huffed.

"You killed me, Nathaniel." Conrad scoffed. "This is nothing compared to that." He smirked and shook his head. Approaching him further he spoke, "I am here to make an offer. I'll forgive you if you want and I will allow you to join me in our mission."

Nathaniel burst into laughter, "Is this a joke? Are you a comedian now that you're back from the dead?" he added.

"You have no idea what I am now." Conrad, in his chilling voice, declared. "This reminds me of the time we met, darkness surrounding us. Finding ways to undermine the other… you failing at it miserably." He chuckled. "Who knew we would end up here," he added.

"In case you forgot, I was the one who killed you once. And I will kill you again." Nathaniel grunted.

"Oh I did not. That is where the forgiving part comes." Conrad scoffed. "Oh, and just so you know. I won't be that easy to kill again. Last time you took advantage of my feelings for you to get to me, but I won't make the same mistake twice."

"And here you are offering me to join you." Now it was Nathaniel's turn to smirk. "Are you sure you are still not blinded by your feelings for me?"

"The feelings you speak of are ancient history." Conrad glared.

"A few days ago, so were you." Nathaniel shrugged. "And here you are revived from the dead. Maybe your feelings for me revived too. Are you sure you just don't want me back?" Nathaniel raised an eyebrow.

"The only reason I want you to join me, is that it'll make things easier for me." Conrad confessed. "But don't worry, I have enough of a backup plan to ensure I get what I want," he declared. He withdrew himself from Nathaniel and declared. "My offer won't be on the table for long. Take two days, and I will see you where we first met. You know, in case you change your mind." he shrugged with a coy smile. He raised his fist and opened them quickly resulting in all the lights to come back up instantly, blinding both Nathaniel and the keen observing Connor for a moment. They blinked to adjust, and once they were done they noticed that Conrad was gone.

"Okay, who the hell was that?" Connor couldn't help but ask. "Clearly you have some history with him… and he is dead? What is he exactly? Because he didn't look human to me."

"He was dead." Nathaniel corrected him. "And now he is resurrected and he is more dangerous than ever." he huffed. "Like I told you kid, you have no idea what kind of stuff lives around here. You should have stayed in the protective borders of your pack when you had the chance. Now… you are gonna regret coming here." Nathaniel shrugged. "FYI, I did not kill Nick. I am done trying to convince you. I have other things to figure out." and with that Nathaniel vanished as well.

Connor sat down in his chair and wondered about whatever had happened in the last couple of hours. He had left the library as soon as Nathaniel was gone, and instead laid on his bed wondering if Nathaniel was right and whether or not he shouldn't have moved all across the world.

If he called his parents and asked for information on stuff like this, he knew he would be called or rather badgered into coming back home. So he called the next best person who might know about this stuff. After perhaps the fifth ring, the person on the other hand finally picked up. "Hey Connor, finally remember me?" a feminine voice teased from the other end.

"Oh I always remember you, Carmen," Connor chuckled. "But right now, I need your help." he sighed. Carmen remained quiet allowing Connor to explain his situation at this moment.
