Chapter 23 - Graveyard of the Arrogant, First Floor II

Laurene's shout prompted Evan to turn his gaze upwards, catching sight of three giant mosquitoes.

A quick appraisal showed they were Glidebuzzes, part of the shimmering wing monster gang, and the bites from these monsters injected their victims with a numbing venom that drained their energies and left them weakened.

Each one was a threat to the current low-level Evan, and there were three of them bearing down on him.

Jumping using the pill bug's corpse as a foothold, Evan grabbed onto the first mosquito's dangerously developed mouth and snapped it in two before swinging his sword to break its head.

At that same moment, one of them swerved behind him and tried to bite him, but just as its mouth touched his back, three bolts of lightning arced through the air and pierced through its body, ending its life instantly.

Evan internally thanked Laurene for the support and jumped backwards while swinging his sword, releasing a slash that cleanly sliced through the third one's head and split it in two.

"I'm barely even doing anything here."

When he tried to turn his gaze to answer Laurene's small mutter, another mantis-like monster with its scythe-shaped forelimbs glowing swooshed at him with no breaks.

It was a bit bigger than the first one he had killed, and obviously stronger too, giving Evan a hard time in avoiding it.

"Tsk"

The young hero limboed the scythe, his pupils darting around and noticing another fly-type monster blitzing towards him from another direction.

He spun his body and severed the creature's life, before landing on the floor and tumbling backwards to distance itself from the big mantis.

Evan, who limboed the scythe threw the second sword backwards in that position to sever the breath of the fly that flew at him from another direction. And when his 2 hands became free like that, he went and did a back tumbling just like that to distance himself from the big mantis.

**KZZZ-KZZZ!!

If Evan thought the sounds the previous monster made were strange, then this one certainly took the cake.

However, in the next moment, he realised that sound might have been some sort of summons for the wasps, beetles, mosquitoes, mantises, and even the 'Greater Demons' known as cockroaches!

'Just where did they hide before coming out?'

Evan certainly didn't have the time to find out as he quickly grabbed his second sword and swung both blades without restraint, aiming for the monsters' heads each time to get instakills.

[Level Up]

Killing so many monsters, it'd be stranger if Evan didn't get a level or two but the boy was much more concerned with bringing out the techniques from his seven-month training under Finley.

[Level Up]

Some insect body fluids splashed on him, but right now the boy didn't really mind—he was going to regret it later though.

As he rampaged like a crazy storm within the monster swarm, golden flashes of light occasionally struck down some of the monsters who attacked him from blind spots.

"Mm?"

The wasp which was about to sting him could not even scream before it crashed onto the ground and joined its fellow insect corpses.

Looking up, he met eyes with Laurene whose hand was held out in its direction, a two-ringed golden magic circle manifested in front of her open palm.

"You finally decided to join the fun!"

"Stop speaking nonsense and kill those monsters!"

As Laurene's point was truly reasonable, Evan cleaned out the monsters with effort even while pouting.

Laurene also attacked too, switching between flame and lightning magic spells to attack the monsters steadily, dealing more damage than Evan would have if he used magic.

When Laurene joined the fray, the swarms of monsters perished quickly, even faster given that her attacks were fast and had the power to one-shot them all.

"Whoa, the extra efficiency is awesome. I'm already level 25."

"Lucky you, I just got to 15."

Hearing the two talk about their levels made Ralphie who was hidden raise an eyebrow.

'Even if their levels are low, I don't remember it being that easy to advance 4 levels. Even more so given how weak these monsters were…'

However, Evan and Laurene had already run off before he could address his thoughts, causing him to heave a sigh as he ran after them.

◇ ◇ ◇

Evan continuously jumped into groups of monsters to kill them all as he had only one thing on his mind.

'Level Up!'

After killing a few dog-like monsters, he took a rest and opened up his knapsack, taking out a magic potion that had the effect of recovering the stamina of the drinker.

The moment he downed the potion, 5 dog monsters, which were distancing themselves from him and only watched while on guard, attacked him simultaneously.

Left leg, right leg, right arm, left shoulder, head.

As if they had agreed on it beforehand, they all chose different parts of his body to assault in their attack.

'One of Dad's strange martial arts was similar to this.'

With that abstruse thought flashing past in his mind, the boy chose to attack, as falling back would make his posture become unstable while defending was going to guarantee him a rabid dog bite.

'Can these monster dogs even give rabies? Considering they are monsters; I reckon they'd give something worse.'

Stepping out with his right foot, he leaned forward and shot his first sword to slash the head of the one aiming for his right leg, with its corpse still stuck on the sword, he swung it and stuck the one aiming for his left leg.

However, by that time, the third dog was already within a short distance of his left shoulder. A trajectory that wouldn't hit even if he swung the sword.

He let go of his left hand holding the first sword and swung his arm, intending to punch it. At that moment, a lightning spear pierced through the head of the dog monster and killed it instantly.

As it was dead, he hurriedly retracted his arm to hold his second sword with both hands and swung down towards the ground while stepping out with his left foot.

After using the shock to dispose of the dead dog, he used the same technique on the fourth and fifth dogs in the line of flight, who were aiming for his head and right arm, respectively.

A split second after the sword's edge gleamed, the two bodies split and cluttered the floor.
