Because of how stubborn he was in his decision to not eat humans, he was sent to fight against fifty whole starving Lunaseekers who were promised falsely by Arima Chrysos of something. It was only really a lie, but they were talked in to doing it and were led to believe the fact that if they ever got to absorb or siphon the essence of Johan, who was told by them and revealed to be an Apostle. He told them that if they were to absorb him and kill him as a result, the powers and physical capabilities as to that of an Apostle would be given to them as a result. Even though it sounded pretty suspicious as he said it, the thought of it and the thought of becoming an Apostle just for beating Johan made them all insane with the drive for the dedication to beat him, but they tried and tried, and Johan merely flicked off their heads from their necks and killed them and absorbed their essence.
