Chapter 6 - Transmigration and the denial stage (2)

How is a level 12 got to win a free-for-all PVP among so many hardcore players? Excluding the cheats and wits he exploited, Wally is quite a vicious person when it comes to making decisions.

...

Kieffer is a young 15-year-old who aspires to become a magic caster. He came with his elder sister to this forest in the hopes of awakening their talents. Alas, the goblins they thought are the easiest to deal with, made a killing of them.

In their party of four, he was the only one who was able to escape thanks to the effort of his sister and the eldest among their compatriots.

There were two of them who were able to extricate themselves from the goblin ambush, but only one of them got out alive— and that is Kieffer. His co-survivor directly died from the poison inflicted on him.

Kieffer's left arm has long been severed, courtesy of a hobgoblin's clumsy sword-wielding. His sister might still be alive since goblins have the habit of sparing them for reproductive purposes. Kieffer thought to himself that if he gets out of this wild forest, he might get a chance of saving his sister through the magic guild.

That is when he started shouting for help.

But Kieffer didn't know, his cry for help alerted something else, something sinister.

A 12-meter-long anaconda lurks~ the Giant Anaconda, a boss-type monster ranging in the lower 40s pounced from Kieffer's blind spot. Then, he was swallowed whole.

...

I reached where the cry of help came from with ease. To my surprise, it is a young man in his teens with a severed left arm.

But before even I made my way to him, the guy was swallowed whole by a Giant Anaconda.

I was speechless. I know that I feel joy from seeing others troubled, but what I saw is something else. This is not trouble I can get delighted from~ this is a life and death situation with destructive consequences.

I drew my Wisdom Wand from my arcane storage, a convenient item storage skill from the wizardry technique.

I have to think logically about this. Not game logic, but human logic. Memories of my game character have long been attuned to mine, so I know now my techniques, talents, and titles like the back of my hand. The process was painful but necessary.

I waved my wand as if waving a sword aiming to severe the Giant Anaconda's head.

"Arcane Slash," I whispered under my breath with intense focus. Seeing the snake's head fall, and its remaining body squirm like a worm for all its blood's worth boosted my confidence that using human logic is the right thing to do.

I searched for what is left of the snake after it stopped writhing. I found the young man was unconscious and unhealthily pale.

I don't have any elixirs of life anymore, but a lesser version will do. I uncorked a vitality potion from my arcane storage, then force-fed the teen. The effects are visible which is evident in the teen's returning color.

Adventurers and warriors have long become a dying profession since the discovery of magic.

No one wants to endanger themselves every day for some vague purpose of living.

If they can get all the comfort they are needing from farming, why not choose the less dangerous profession?

This option became available since the birth of magic. People are no longer forced to become soldiers and adventurers because there is magic! Powers that allowed humanity to fight monstrosities!

Before, people have always fought monsters with numbers using human lives as a bullet to every danger that a nation encounters. But now, existences called magic casters can fight such monstrosities instead.

The adventurer's guild was retrofitted to become the magic guild. The adventurers who took the most dangerous jobs either retired or tried their luck with magic.

Soldiers no longer desired to become warriors, and instead aspired to become knights that swear to protect the people.

But Kieffer doesn't want any of that. He wants adventure and battle! And in this era, magic is essential to his purpose.

His elder sister also wants the same, a life of thrill and freedom that exceeds those of commoners.

This, I can fully understand. Though, I don't know the game as seriously as others. I at least knew it on the surface level. Hearing Kieffer's motivation confirmed that whatever place he transmigrated to— it's definitely a world tangent to Magic and Monstrosity, the game.

At some point, I entertained the idea this is a parallel world totally unrelated to the game.

After saving Kieffer from his unearthly demise, waiting for him to wake up to tell me his sob story— I tested some things I found curious. The inspiration came from the writhing mass of snake.

The Great Anaconda swallowed its victim like the predator it is.

The thing is, Great Anacondas in the game don't have that swallowing skill. This may be attributed to the instinct of the snake as a predator. I just thought to myself, maybe I can do something similar with the help of my stats.

Who knows, I might be able to create something akin to skills.

I tested my strength, by punching a nearby tree with my bare hands. Here I go~ Hah!

A nice crunching sound is heard. My punch left a dent in the tree. Nice! Maybe, I can start calling myself, Wally the brawler. I only felt a sting in my knuckles, so maybe I can do more.

I ate lots of stuff that can give a permanent increase in my stats, so my attributes is above a regular Wizard. Not to boot, I am also at level 100. Seeing the dent in the tree gave me more confidence.

Then, I went for a boulder. I punched as hard as I can only to wince in pain after~ yowch! Only a faint mark is left on the boulder. The pain was similar to your fingers being stuck in a door.

The stats in the game are strength, vitality, endurance, agility, dexterity, intelligence, and spirit.

If I remember correctly my intelligence has the highest value followed by spirit. Then the rest are of a similar estimated range. The poor snake food was still unconscious so I have time all for myself.
