"Is this where the first signs of spreading started?" asked a middle- aged woman. She was tall and angular. Red hair flowed down to her shoulders but most of her facial features were hidden behind a mask.
She was covered in a white uniform that was designed to protect them against the infection. There were four others crowding behind her in a strange, abandoned room. Each had a disconsolate expression on their faces. A sorrow that will never heal.
"The first Conversion took place here, Lauren" said a man behind her, stepping forward.
"No, I will open this door and go in, Will. Don't follow me until I give you the signal!" she commanded, slowly placing her hand on the handle. The others nodded in agreement.
They all stared up at the ordinary-looking building. It was beautiful, built with wheat colored bricks and has black stone decorations. There was a monotone yet grand essence to the building. But they knew it wouldn't last. The Apocalypse was predicted to wreck havoc throughout their world. Their chance of survival was minimal, but humanity will try to survive as long as possible.
Lauren opened the door and went in, looking around in pitch-black darkness. She found the switch and pressed it. One by one, the lights turned on. The darkness disappeared, leaving the rescuer confused.
"You can come in..." she muttered slowly, a quizzical look on her face. She watched her fellow rescuers come into the room with the same expression. "There's nothing here..." she said, frustrated.
"Well, there is..." A man said, taking a better look at the room. He walked to the far end of the room and stopped adjacent to the middle. He had a pair of gloves on already, but he took another pair out of his pockets and put them on.
He slowly knelt down, his eyes concentrated on something on the floor. He picked it up and showed it to his co-workers. "A band-aid..." a girl no older than 20 stated. The man slowly started to peel the band-aid.
His eyes widened when he saw what was inside. He showed it to the others, who also gasped. "Blood..." Lauren observed, taking a closer look at the object Will held in his hands. "No, it can't be..."
*Sigh"
"No, It's green blood..."

"Are you awake?"
Fabian heard Marcus' distant voice. He suddenly got up and looked around. He was in an unfamiliar location. There wasn't a lot of light in the unknown place, but he felt safe and comfortable. That was all that mattered.
"Where are we?" Fabian asked, looking over at Marcus.
"In a hovel. You've been out for a whole two days..." came the bland response.
Marcus had two plates which had huge cracks running through them. Next to him, there were two loafs of bed and a bottle of water. There was also a larger green bottle with a pale, murky liquid inside.
"Uh, sorry. These were the only... edible things I found while I was scavenging-"
"Don't be sorry. I'm grateful for the food..."
His white T-shirt was more torn that before. It was the first time Fabian noticed the huge scar across his back. It went deep. He was going to ask what had happened, but he hesitated.
Marcus sensed his new companion staring at him and he immediately understood. "I know what you were going to ask me" he muttered, turning around from his task at hand. He reached back and ran down the scar.
Fabian was impressed by the precision in which he did it. He immediately understood he had done it countless times before. Marcus held a sorrowful look on his face, which immediately made the hovel fall into silence.
"How I ended up like this..." he said, pointing at himself with distaste. "I was an experiment, Fabian. A mere experiment. I lived alone after my parent's death nearly a decade ago now. A group of people came to my house one day and told me I had to go with them. I went willingly, only to find out they were taking me to some lab where they trapped me inside, giving me the bare minimum to survive.
They kept me there until I was at the brink of death. I was barely conscious when they pulled me into a dark room. They called it the 'Augmentation Experiment' I had no idea what it was and to this day I still don't. Apparently I was the last test subject before they did the real deal. But I managed to escape. I managed to pretend to be asleep and ran when I heard the door opening. I was on the run ever since..."
Fabian was too shocked to react nor speak. "The last test subject before-" he muttered, staring at Marcus. He knew he should tell Marcus that the final test subject was him, and that he was going to be the cause for the extinction of humanity but he was too scared.
"I'm sorry you had to go through all that..." Fabian finally said, keeping his head low. He didn't know what to do. He hoped Marcus didn't see the sweat trinkling down his forehead.
"It's fine..." Marcus replied, emotionless.

"System Panel" Fabian muttered out of pure curiosity. He saw a red flashing light in the side of his vision. "Huh, what's this..." he thought to himself. He finally noticed that the flashing light was next to the Daily Quest Tab.
*Ding*
[A new Daily Quest is available]
[Host will not receive a new Daily Quest until the accepted one is completed]
Fabian clicked on the Daily Quest and read the text that popped up:
[Daily Quest (F Rank): Relocate 5km South]
He suddenly stood up, startling Marcus. "What the f*ck?! What kind of quest is this?" Fabian muttered under his breathe.
"Huh, did you say something?" Marcus said, confused.
"Uh, no" Fabian replied.
Marcus gave him a wary look before going back to the task he was doing. From what Fabian could see, Marcus was chipping away at a large piece of wood. He had smoothed out what seemed to be a handle. The middle was refined and sharp. The end of the stick was pointy.
"It's a sword!" Fabian exclaimed.
"Yeah, I need something to protect myself against those... things!" Marcus said, putting down the sword and stretching his arms.
[Does the Host wish to accept the Quest (Rank F)?]
[YES/NO]
*Sigh*
He hesitated before giving his reply: "Yes..." he muttered.
