Blast looked out across the crowd.
"Now students as your names are called, please approach the Stage to receive your official hero communicators. After getting your communicators please return to your seats so I can explain a few of their features to you all."
He then began to call out the names of each of the 100 new students.
"Adam Arrlington"
"Alicia Ballard"
The principal continued calling names. After several more names were called students started to head to below the front of the stage. At a table stacked with small black boxes, 4 students in school uniforms with accompanying white armbands stood handing out the black boxes to each of the new students as they came up.
"Amy Clark"
"John Clarkson"
Once this name was called murmuring was heard throughout the auditorium as people started to discuss the boy with a bodybuilder physique and golden hair who stood up when the name 'John Clarkson' was called out.
"Whoa that kid is huge."
"He's gotta be at least 200 cm."
"Is he really only 13 years old?"
Up on the stage, Mai nudged Supreme with her elbow and whispered. "Is that John?"
Supreme nodded his head, a look of pride enveloping his face.
"Yeah that's him. He really took to training like a fish to water."
"I can see that much. Kai did too. I just hope they remember to take it easy on the other students."
"So, where is Kai anyways?"
Mai pointed with her chin to the back row of the new students. "Apparently napping…"
Supreme's stoic appearance cracked for a moment as he almost burst into laughter before he pulled himself back together.
He then took a sidelong glance at Mai. "Well he is your grandson. If I remember right you slept through quite a few mission briefings when you were his age."
"You're never going to let me live that down are you."
"Maybe in another century or so…"
Mai pouted for a moment before remembering there were cameras recording everything. Then resumed the serious look that was on her face moments ago.
The momentary changes in their expressions couldn't be picked up on the cameras.
As the names continued to be called Kai continued to nap. He actually didn't need to sleep, however for him this ceremony seemed to take days and so out of sheer boredom he ended up nodding off.
Blast continued to read off the names.
"Tammy Morgan"
"Ben Myatt"
"Kai Nakai"
Kai awoke to the sound of his grandmother's voice roaring in his ear. "KAI NAKAI GET YOUR BUTT UP AND GET IN LINE!"
Kai immediately got up and looked around. Seeing Mai still on the stage glaring directly at him he quickly looked away and joined the queue to receive his official hero communicator.
Up on stage Supreme looked wide eyed at the boy who had just stood up almost faster than he could perceive. Forgetting himself for a second he suddenly said aloud, "How is he that fast already?!".
Hearing the exclamation from Supreme Bloodwind hung her head while rubbing the bridge of her nose in frustration. "Well, you already know what his elemental attunement is.. He's had some trouble slowing down his perception. So he's stuck perceiving everything like it's a hundred times slower than it actually is for now."
"Oh, that has to be really tiring. Everything would… Wait, how does he hear normal sounds with his perception tuned up like that?"
"He technically doesn't. He's just interpreting the vibrations in the air and constantly translating them into sounds so he can interact with people normally."
"How did he get stuck like that though?"
"He's actually faster than either of us, so is his perception. I've had him training with Raijin and Fujin for about 6 months out of the year.
He's like this after slowing himself down to about half speed."
Supreme's jaw dropped as the look on his face went from confused to amazed and back again. "Ha… Half… Half speed?! Wait… you've had him training with those two psychotic blood thirsty monks this whole time?"
"Yeah. Don't you remember he has lightning and wind attunement. Those two are pure lightning and wind controllers. I had to have someone train him that wasn't using other elements. Plus it helped keep those two from causing trouble for Amaterasu. Don't worry too much, he's been with me half the time."
"Yeah, I remember. I'm just surprised… Wait, how have you been teaching him to control his strength if he's been living in the wilderness with you and the twins this whole time? It's not like they live near any cities."
"Oh, not a problem, they've been having him practice with weaker and weaker students the last few years. So as long as he isn't fighting anyone below B rank it should be fine. I mean what idiot would let a student registered as a S rank spar with C ranks."
"..."
"It should be fine…"
"Yeah you're right. Most of the instructors here are veterans. Besides no one is that dumb. It would be like asking an unarmed person to fight someone in a tank."
The principal continued calling names as the students each took their little black boxes back to their seats. As the last student took their seat the principal once again gazed across the crowd with a smile on his face.
"Students, please open the boxes you have received."
"Inside will be a black 3 inch wide bracelet style holo device. These holo devices are the only way you can use the internet while here at the academy.
They are also equipped with GPS mapping and tracking. This is mostly for your safety. It will also help you find your classes.
You will notice once you activate it that it will sync to your biometrics. Only you can use that device once it does. Your class schedules are already recorded in the calendar on your device. Your Room assignments as well as the Academy rules and regulations are on the CAcademy App.
