Chapter 17 - Together in Her Car

Her next words took me by surprise.

"Let's get out of here." She said as she ducked down, avoiding me.

"Er, you want to go out on a date with me... now?" I asked, confused.

"I thought you wanted answers," she said, suddenly she was in a hurry.

"Well, yeah," I admitted recovering my composure. "Thank you for accepting my invitation," I said honestly.

"Don't thank me just yet," she said before going out, not bothering to wait for me.

Elizabeth was walking past the crowd, no one spared us a glance while we continued walking until we reached her truck, surely she had something to do with it.

I opened the driver's door, holding it for her as she stepped in, shutting it softly behind her afterward. I walked around the car, dazed, I never imagined I would be riding the monster while she drove it.

It was fricking awesome.

Once I got inside, she started the engine and turned the heater on high. It was snowing again outside but I only noticed it now, the scent of jasmine was all around me. I had only one thought in mind.

'I can get used to this.'

Elizabeth pulled out of the parking lot and headed toward the freeway.

"Today," she said then she looked at me, "No more secrets." Both her voice and what she said was music to my ears.

"Can I ask where we're going?" I said curiously as Elizabeth drove in the direction of my house. She didn't seem surprised by my question.

"The forest behind your place," she answered. A small v forming between her beautiful doe eyes, her full lips parting, as if not sure whether to add to the subject or not. She closed her lips afterward.

"Well… it doesn't matter where we go, anywhere is fine as long as we can speak in private." I encouraged her.

She narrowed her eyes as if she was calculating something.

"We can start right away, your car is as good as any other place," I suggested, wanting to keep the conversation rolling.

She smiled.

The warmth that swelled through my heart was not normal, it shouldn't be that big of an accomplishment each time I have the girl smiling, but somehow it was.

"Fine, then. You're being watched 24/7 and right now, two cars are on our tail." She looked at her side mirror, giving me time to comprehend what she was telling me.

I kept waiting for the punch line, but the girl kept a straight face on.

She was being serious.

This was downright outrageous, it was hard to put what I felt into words, I tried but I just couldn't comment. One thought was clear in my head again.

'Am I that important!?'

"Yes, you are. No one is more important in our world than you."

I wasn't ready to hear that just yet, but I had to dig for more information now that she was fully cooperating with me.

"When did you find out that we can… communicate without speaking." It was hard to say it out loud and not sound crazy at the same time.

She looked at me with a bored expression on her face. "The first time we met. Obviously."

Hell.

"What was the first thing you heard me saying, you know, not through my tongue and all," I cringed at my own question.

She had a crooked smile on her pretty face.

"Rude much?" She said in a deep voice. she was trying to imitate me.

I rubbed my face and chin once and felt the heat creeping up to my ears. I needed to change the subject and I needed to change it immediately.

"How do we do it — the telepathy thing? I never meant for you to hear that in your mother's office, can we block each other for at least a few things… ?" I felt mortified, trying to remember if I had any inappropriate thoughts about her when she was around me.

I fantasized about her, many times, when I was alone.

"What you're experiencing is called raw talent, the name is pretty much self-explanatory, purebloods are usually talented in one way or another, they practice over the years until they master what they're good at…," she trailed off.

I nodded, this was actually cool. Something to look forward to.

"Your raw talent is… above average, it's just you. I don't have anyone else to compare you with, not anywhere in our world. I have to be honest with you... The more we communicate mentally, the more I feel you grabbing the ropes to our connection. I know you did it intentionally today, so you broke my resolve not to act against the orders about you... You're too talented to be left in the dark, I don't care what anyone will have to say about this,"

It was the longest I've heard her speak apart from when she was venting about having to protect me the other day.

She wasn't done.

"My father... King Frederick... He will not let this go for sure, but it's my own choice." She nodded, more to herself than anyone else.

She was telling me that she was ready to face any backlashes for what we were doing now.

'Who dares question you?'

My blood ran cold at the idea of someone backlashing at her, her father or not, no one was allowed to touch Elizabeth.

'Mine.'

She hit the brakes hard, and the truck danced left and right a bit over the slippery road before it continued.

I knew she heard me saying that she was mine inside of my head, but did she know that I was as startled as much as she was?

'I don't know why this keeps happening to me.' I told her through our brains this time.

"You must feel quite bipolar at times. Am I right?" She frowned as she asked me, and I found myself mirroring her frown with one of my own... "You are partially awakened, but you still refuse to let go."

I didn't miss how her hands squeezed the driving wheel tighter.

I always felt like I was a freak, I just dismissed what was happening to me.

"Will you help me wake up fully now?" I asked seriously.

She looked at me, her eyes full of innocence.

"I promise I will if they let me," she almost whispered the last three words out. "The werewolves can't go further than the mutual territory lines, that's when we reach our lands…" She trailed off again, "I guess it depends on how much he's willing to let you in on..."
