Alex: A year after I first met her, Cass was skipping out to my car. Her dance bag was slung over one shoulder as she opened the door.
"Hey," she said, getting in and greeting me with a kiss.
"Hey," I said.
"So how would you feel about to coming to a show I'm dancing in?" she asked.
"I would ask when it was," I said, raising an eyebrow.
"The 12th," she said. I quickly racked my mind for any gigs that day. Nothing came to mind.
"I'm free," I said, "I'll be there."
She smiled, and kissed me, "Great."
The fact was Cass had never let me see her dance. Not in the whole year we had been dating. She always said she was waiting for the right time, or a special occasion. I knew she was a good dancer. She always seemed to be dancing. The way she walked so gracefully. The way she twirled at random. The way she bobbed her head to the songs on the radio.
So as I sat in my seat on the 12th, I couldn't help but feel practically giddy. Finally I watched as the red velvet curtain parted, and I saw her.
She stood amongst a team of around 12 other girls. They were all dressed in flowing red outfits, the red flowing skirt revealing her long toned legs, her abs exposed. The music started with a slow, melancholy violin and I watched as she slowly rose one legs in the air, letting her arms flow behind her, her head falling back. She seemed to move in slow motion, every movement moving like water. It just flowed to the music.
The music picked up with a strum of an electric guitar and an intense drum beat. Suddenly the slow, flowing movement turned into perfectly choppy hip hop dance. Every movement hit perfectly on one beat or another. The way she moved seemed just so perfect. The way Cass smiled seemed to bring all of it together.
In that moment I learned something. I had known I loved Cass. But in that moment she became the love of my life. The woman I would die for. The woman I'd do anything and everything for. The only one who would ever matter. My universe.
I sat there in shock, numb except for the love I felt. All too soon, the lights came up.
I stood outside, waiting for Cass. She ran up to me. Her face was red and she was beaming. "So?" she asked.
"That," I said, trying to find the words, "Was incredible."
"You think?" she asked, smiling.
"Yeah," I said. I just looked at her, her eyes beaming with pride, her smile seeming to radiate. She was the most beautiful thing.
"What?" she asked, giving me a funny smile.
"Nothing," I said, shrugging, "You're just beautiful."
She blushed, "You're a dork."
"Yeah," I said, "Come on. We need to go celebrate."
