Chapter Two
[Hecate…]
A androgynous soft voice could be heard as if someone was leaning over whispering. Lilac threw her arm over to shoo them away only to hit a hard wooden wall.
The sound echoed, but she didn't feel much pain from it. Her eyebrows wrinkled up in confusion, something felt off.
[Hecate…]
Once again the soft voice sounded. Compared to the first time, it's tone was much louder and it succeeded in catching Lilac's attention. In the orphanage she was often woken up by the nuns of the house, but the voice wasn't one that she recognized.
Maybe they were new?
Lazily, Lilac opened her eyes and cast an empty stare at her surroundings. The only issue was that she was met with pitch black darkness.
Her heart rate accelerated as her eyes strained tried to make out her surroundings.
What was this? Hell?
From childhood one of her worst fears was being locked in a small dark place. Large inhales turned into gasps as her heart began to beat too quickly for her lungs to keep up.
Fuck…
Was her hell to live an eternity in darkness while suffocating?
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
What did she do to deserve for her to even go to hell?
Maybe she stole a cookie and perhaps she lied more than she should. Ok and maybe when she was eight she pushed a kid down a slide, because he wasn't letting her go…
And no she didn't ever really believe in a higher power despite being forced to pray everyday…..
Wait, fuck did she actually belong here?
Panicked thoughts flew through Lilac's mind as her hands felt around the area.
The fact that she had been panicking for more than three minutes without a sign of passing out farther engraved the idea that she had been sent to hell.
The nuns at her orphanage would be boisterously laughing I told you so if they saw this.
[Hecate!]
Lilac jumped as the voice screeched in her ear. Her already wide eyes, widened more.
Another ghost in hell?
[Hecate… you don't recognize me?]
[Ah! Whatever that would make a lot of sense I guess it's been a while.]
The voice sounded hurt as it remorsefully reasoned with itself.
[I did just raise you practically, but you know out of sight out of mind I guess.]
The voice didn't sound very understanding at all as it continued to throw a passive aggressive fit.
Lilac moved her head to her side, but thankfully no one was lying next to her in the small area. Tears poured down her cheeks from inability of being able to breathe.
She felt very uncomfortable. Despite nothing moving the constant feeling of the box's walls moving in invaded her mind.
[Fine, Fine… Hecate! Your old bat of a mother told me to tell you hello, and that she misses you very much… blah blah… She still feels very bad for the favor you did for her last time, that landed you in three human life times of suffering… blah blah… but now that you are back, she has one last favor to ask!]
'Please shut up…'
Lilac just found out she was sent to hell, and now a unknown voice was blathering out things that she didn't understand. Her brain couldn't handle it!
While in school she did great, but she had no thoughts the majority of the time! Suffocating, in a small dark space, while an unknown voice addressed her with the wrong name, it was safe to say this was complete overload!
The voice took no heed to her as it continued.
[Don't be rude! Anyway this favor has to do with your sister. The fates have tied her strings together with an absolute beast! Your mother can't bear for that to happen, yet you know how the fates are.]
'My sister…'
An image jumped into Lilac's head of a dream she had when she was younger. It was hazy and difficult for her to remember details. All she could recall was a little girl, blue skies, and flowers.
However, for some reason ever since that dream no one could ever tell her she didn't have siblings.
The orphanage was a hell for her, but knowing that someone was waiting on the other side made her life much better.
'Who is my sister?'
[Persephone of cours- Wait Hecate do you not remember Persephone? What is goin-]
Before the voice could finish its thought a rhythmic knock sounded outside of the box Lilac was in. Following the knock was the sound of a steady and elegant male voice.
"Your Majesty May I enter?"
