Chapter 14 - Going With The Third Division

The thought made him shiver, from everything he experienced until now this was up there in how creepy and uncanny of a situation it was. Shifting in bed for a couple a minutes, Bultear stood up walked to his table and picked up the Heart of Weeping. The translucent red orb was quite a sight to observe. It had markings of a winged being weeping in the center, giving of a feeling like it was storing a being, a presence of great power and misery. The ancient feeling was striking and immaculate, the sun rays that were peeking through his window were swallowed by its burgundy hue.

'So many things to think about. So little time. *sigh*'

Walking to around his extremely small room, the steps he took were slow an methodical showing how he had slowly come down.

'I can't waste energy thinking about things I have no information about. It's not like the concept of these beings is foreign to me. I learned about them in school before I dropped out. E.S.O.P can be said to have a 100 problems but being competent at keeping these monsters as purely lectures in school is not one of them.'

Fiddling with the crimson orb in his hands he slowly walked to the tiny mirror on his wall that was more akin to a unrefined piece of glass than a mirror. Thinking how it was finally time to fully analyze himself. The mirror, small, half broken, barely attached, reflected a Bultear who had changed immensely. His hair had become pitch black like the dead of night. He grew, that he already knew. His muscles were lean, their beast-like outline hard to miss as the neck muscles were pronounced with an outline of someone many, many years in training. He took off his shirt to see more. Powerful, as if of stone carved. No fat visible, not bulky, lean and full of strength.

'If people knew that the only thing, they needed to do to look like this was simply to die and come back to life, everybody would've done it by know. I must be the bane of all those guys selling those portable gymnasiums. *hehe* '

Lightly laughing at himself, with upturned eyes he took a close look at his face. From the average looking man with a bland face, an entirely different picture was reflected in the mirror's glass. His eyebrows were thick and dense, his sky-blue ayes now more pronounced, a strong jaw and a ski slope nose rounded of a face that reminded him of the portraits of Caan's rulers. Those portraits were a hot commodity at every market, since it was said that the rulers of Caan were the most beautiful men in history.

...

The Undying empire of Caan; the biggest, richest and most powerful Empire on the Hyantix continent. They sported not only the political influence, but they were also trend setters in fashion and entertainment. Their rulers were celebrities, heroes of their times. The writers of Caan popularized many different genres. The first theater play evolving Evolvers was first introduced by Caan's 7th emperor Gorhdan. All of these superlatives still pale to one single fact, the fact that led to Caan having the moniker of 'Undying'; The youngest country out of the five major countries, became the strongest, how? They simply never lost a single war they participated in...

...

'My luck with women will henceforth change, soon all the rich young masters, artists, actors and whatever will bow their heads in shame when I, a former janitor, get all the women!'

He walked to the oak icebox at the corner of his room, opened to take out some salami he saved for later. Nibbling on the salami sandwich he made, Bultear came back to his bed satisfied with his appearance.

'Okay, so I, according to Safir, have three organs that have evolved corresponding to three abilities. The first one should be my nose and the ability to smell the mood and details on people like with Ms. Clayton. The second was the thing I did when I killed Krell... now that I think about it, I killed someone, a living person...'

Remembering how his attack completely devoured Krell, Bultear realized he took a life. Rewinding to that scene he focused on the bloodied room, the tortured corpses, and the expression of fear and terror his victim showed he felt surprisingly calm. He did not feel joy or a sense of dread, just a calm acceptance of the situation.

'The brain, spine and heart evolve huh... it makes me wonder if it's apt to consider becoming beast-like an evolution... what part of me evolved to allow me to do that attack in the first place? I also need to figure out my third power.'

And so in a sea of thoughts and speculation time quickly flew and noon was soon taking up its spot on the horizon. When Bultear had started eating his second sandwich he heard a light tapping on his apartment door.

'The people of the 3rd division are her to pick me up it seems.'

Walked to the door while thinking to himself. Putting his face closer to the door he asked loudly.

"Who's there!"

"5th seat of the 3rd division Sinthia Fullplum!"

The short and to the point answer from the other side was carried by a voice akin to a bell, soothing to the ears. In response Bultear opened the door.

'I hope she also doesn't brainwash people somehow.'

A short woman with long, jet black hair that was green at the tips greeted him. Her eyes were big, purple and round, the tandem with her oval face made for a cute and lively appearance. Bultear immediately recognized her long cloak as the same cloak the people who took him away when he came back to life wore.

"Bulltear Amalen, I am here to take you to the headquarters of the 3rd division."

'So formal and serious. Nothing like her appearance at all.'

"It would be my pleasure, lead the way Mrs. Fullplum."

A tiny smile popped up on her pretty face as she led him out of his residential building. Leaving the premises Bultear turned to look back at the workers hard at work and after a second he asked Sinthia who was walking next to him.

"Did you happen to see the landlady, Mrs. Elmer, by any chance?"

"The person we are paying the repairs for? No, I did not, why?"

"No reason, I just she'd be here observing the work. With her personality and all."

"I see."

'Is she hiding from the officials from E.S.O.P? I need to keep my eye on her.'

Bultear's weariness was growing by the minute.
