Chapter 16 - What Have I Gotten Myself Into?

"It's not a date, okay?!" Irene is annoyed. Now she is some sort of a cheating girlfriend to Amiel.

Irene sighed. The situation is so twisted that she even forgot Amiel is her 'boyfriend'. Speaking of him, Irene and Valerie arrived in her condo but Amiel has not arrived yet.

Valerie immediately went to rest inside her room while Irene prepares herself for dinner along with Jerrick.

Tilting her head while looking at her own reflection on the illuminated mirror, "Does he like me?" She thought, pertaining to Jerrick's odd invitation for a dinner tonight.

It is not like he has something important to tell her because he could have done so when she was in his office earlier this day. Irene hates assuming things otherwise stated so she just brushed the silly thought away.

"Oh, you're already here?" Irene closed the door of her bedroom and saw Amiel watching television in the living room.

Irene's heart sank seeing Amiel wear the same clothes even at home.

'I should shop some clothes and other things for him,' She thought while putting on her heels.

For the past few days, Irene's been itching to ask Amiel a bunch of things but her jam-packed schedule just would not give her an opportunity to do so. At work, Amiel is usually silent because it is uncommon for artists and bodyguards to talk a lot at work.

Now that Irene started thinking of the questions she has, it irritates her that she is still not getting the answers to it. Tonight may have been a good time if she was not invited to dinner by her boss, the CEO.

Amiel is pretty good at his job and Irene is at ease because she knows too well that he is more than able to protect her from any danger.

"Where are you going?" Amiel asked, the television sounds in the background.

Irene fixed the strap of her luxury shoulder bag, "To dinner with my boss," She simply answered.

He seems to be contemplating her response by not answering so she just turned her back and was about to leave the condo unit. Flicking her tongue, Irene walks back to the living room and faced Amiel.

"Don't worry, he is not a threat." Deep inside, Irene feels like it was unnecessary but the worried expression on Amiel's handsome face bothers her.

Nodding his head at her response, Amiel continues to watch a variety show on the television while Irene leave, her heels clicking against the marble floor.

Beatriz is the most expensive condominium building in the heart of a rapidly and ever progressing modern city. Known for its high ceiling and luxurious interior, Beatriz is a home to numerous significant figures.

In Irene's condo building, there is no need to conceal her identity because most of the residents are also artists, actresses, sports celebrity, and other very important people in the society.

The condominium lobby screams luxury in every perimeter. Crossing her legs while seated in a sofa in the middle of the spacious lobby, Irene scrolls through her phone while waiting for Jerrick to cue if he is already outside.

A giant rectangular chandelier piece hangs beautifully on the high ceiling of the lobby. Soft accent lights illuminated the place. Residents are coming in and out of the building in lavish cars and luxurious clothing. Some nod their heads at Irene which she returns with a light bow and a wave.

Women, Beatriz residents and staff alike turn their heads to man's direction but Irene was too occupied in playing piano tiles on her phone. She felt someone sit beside her.

"I am on level 273 on that game," The man beside her spoke but she still did not see his face yet as she is engrossed in passing the game level she is currently in.

Irene almost let go of her phone when she saw Jerrick's face close to her, "Oh gosh you startled me!" She placed a palm on her check while trying to catch her breath.

"Did I?" Jerrick scratched the back of his head and gave her a peace sign. He is wearing his usual suit with his sleek styled hair.

The car ride on the way to a fancy restaurant was silent. Irene sat still on the passenger seat while trying to think of conversation topics or else she will die out of awkwardness between her and her boss.

"How-…" The two of them spoke at the same time which made Irene bite her lower lip in embarrassment.

Hearing Jerrick chuckle and joke around is something that Irene could not seem to get used to because he is the exact opposite in the workplace. At work, he looks like he is someone who can devour anyone at any moment.

The restaurant is located at a mountain top showing a full wide view of the city and the bright lights of the buildings. Irene's eyes glimmered with joy as she looked around the place.

"Never been here?" Jerrick asks, both of his hands on his pocket while following behind Irene.

Irene held on to her bag's golden chain and faced him, "Yes. It's so beautiful,"

"I know." Jerrick smiled, showing his white perfectly aligned teeth.

He is oozing with a Casanova aura so Irene is not letting her guards down. Jerrick led her to a private table outside with the city view.

After they had their dinner, Jerrick spoke. "Irene, I hate beating around the bush. You know that right?"

"I know," Irene nodded her head, completely having no idea what Jerrick is up to. She is somehow good at reading others but Jerrick is too hard to read.

Jerrick leaned and rested his back on the chair's back rest, "Good, let me go straight to the point then," He takes a sip of cold water and continued, "I like you." Staring directly into Irene's surprised beautiful eyes.

Later that night, no matter how many times Irene flips herself on the bed, she just can't seem to stop playing the scene on her head of Jerrick telling her that he likes her like it's some sort of a casual thing to say like 'Good morning' and 'Goodbye'.
