Once the last fight of the first round was over. Everyone's Class token who hadn't lost a fight glowed before showing what match they would be fighting next.
When I looked down at my token I saw my match was number 125 meaning my match was the very last fight in the second round I showed my token to Lena before Looking at hers. Her token read match 54 So she would be pretty early into the next round.
The matches in the round were slightly more entertaining since most of the F-grade mana core students had already been defeated. After around 30 minutes of spectating the matches Match, 54 Had finally arrived. Lena stood up and walked to the arena after giving me a bright smile I could see the fighting spirit burning in her eyes though Lena was playful I could tell she was a very competitive person deep down.
When I looked across the stage to find her opponent I was startled it was Charles. I was quite interested to see how this fight would play out Charles Hadn't used his mana in his last fight so besides him being highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat no one has really seen what he was capable of.
When Lena and Charles loaded into the stage. The fight started quickly Lena instantly form a circle of 30 meters around her in all directions into jagged terrain. Before bending over to pick up a rock to throw it.
The audience couldn't help but start laughing still remember Lena's last fight a few girls seated near us I could even hear speaking, "Hahaha Laura it looks like the rock empress is back".
Laura replied, "O no it's the world's most feared magic stone skipper".
Hearing their conversation I had to admit out of everyone's way of fighting so far Lena's was certainly the most amusing.
Charles seeing that his path to Lena was blocked off backed up a few Meters to make it harder for Lena to hit him with the stones she was constantly trying to pelt him with.
His hand released a light green glow you could see barely see before a plant started to grow from the stream beside him. It started slithering towards Lena across the jagged terrain like a snake as it continued to get longer, Lena seeing the plant was only 10 meters away from her started using the mana on the ground behind her smoothing it out so she could back up without tripping.
Unknowingly to Lena, a plant started slithering out from the stream behind her as soon as the audience noticed this they started to cheer.
Since the barrier isolated the arena Lena remained unaware until she felt something wrapping around her ankles looking down and noticing that a plant had grabbed her she tried to jerk her leg to break the vine's hold on her. but the plant was stronger than it looked.
The plant pulled causing Lena to fall to the ground before dragging her into the water and pulling her toward Charles.
When Lena came out of the water beside Charles gasping for air Charles wrapped his hands around Lena's neck choking her until she passed out dissipating into motes of light.
After the fight ended Charles went over and shook Lena's hand and told her good fight before returning back to his seat.
When Lena got back next to me I could see she seemed to be sad so I asked her if she was ok, Lena nodded and said, "yeh I'm fine I just thought id be able to finish higher in the newcomer's tournament I'm just slightly disappointed with myself I guess I've got a lot of hard work do to."
After thinking for a moment I responded, "yeah but don't after the newcomers tournament will all be improving together so ill do what I can to help."
Lena gave me a small smile before returning to watching the matches.
Towards the end of the round, it was finally my turn to fight.
But this match was just as easy as the last one I walked on stage and killed my opponent within a few seconds before simply walking back to take a seat. Honestly, I was getting quite bored with this tournament since I had to wait around an hour just to kill someone instantly and then go back to waiting. I couldn't wait for this tournament to be over so I could get back to training. Thanks to the later stage of the tournament, there were fewer rounds, so my time between matches decreased significantly.
Me and Charles both easily passed threw the 3rd and 4th rounds of the tournament.
In the 5th round, there were only 30 matches and one bye Looking at my token I noticed that I had gotten the bye this round. I wasn't sure if I was excited about this since I was incredibly bored and this only meant I was going to have to wait longer to get a fight. I had a feeling I was really going to hate every start of every year this felt like a giant waste of my time.
During the 5th match of the 5th round, It was Charles's turn to fight again. When I saw who his opponent was I was a bit excited honestly I was starting to worry that Charles might finish in the top 10 if that happened I wouldn't be able to accept him into my team.
While nature magic did not have a lot of firepower, Charles had strong instincts, a clever mind, and was very skilled at hand-to-hand combat.
His opponent was Jeremy the only SS-grade new student in our year. Charles and Jeremy appeared in the arena and the battle started Charles had a faint green glow surrounding his body this was something he hadn't shown in any of his previous fights. While 2 whip-like plants extended from the stream next to him.
While Jeremy covered his hands and feet with air magic and started rushing toward Charles.
Charles tried to use the whips created front he plants to try and tie up Jeremy's feet but when the vines approached Jeremy simply cut them apart using his hands like a blade causing the vines to fall to the ground like a cut rope.
Jeremy closed in on Charles quickly before launching at Charles's neck.
To my surprise, Charles almost completely dodged Jeremy's attack. He seemed to be much faster than before of course, he wasn't as fast as Jeremy who was using air magic the fastest of all the elementary magics. But he was still significantly faster than anyone could move without using magic.
I wasn't totally sure how he was doing it but if I had to guess it had something to do with the green glow surrounding his body I made a mental note to ask Charles about it later.
Charles Dodged the attack leaving only a small cut on his neck slowly dripping with blood. Before throwing a punch quickly at Jeremy's gut and connecting.
This was the first time in all of Jeremy's matches that anyone had managed to land a blow on him.
Sadly although the blow to his body hurt and you could see a faint trace of blood on his lips he quickly regained his balance and kicked out with his leg.
Charles tried to block with his arm but the air magic around the leg made it very sharp cutting deeply into Charle's arm before starting to poor blood with his dominant arm out of the fight. The match only lasted a few more blows before Charles turned into motes of lights and disappeared.
When Jeremy and Charles came back to their real bodies, Charle's walked over and shook Jeremy's hand while telling his opponent good fight just like he did for the people he had beaten.
Jeremy simply snorted in disdain before walking back to his seat in the crowd.
Charles gave a slight frown but also did the same.
